Dear Ranger Nation,
For ten years, it has been my honor and privilege to work at Cedar Park HS in Leander ISD. Leander ISD has been a home away from home for me since moving here in 2012. Vista Ridge High School has an incredible tradition and culture that I am now proud to be a part of. Family, character, self servant leadership, and hard work are core values that I have been blessed to experience in my fifteen years as an educator and coach. These core values will continue to be a standard in my transition to Vista Ridge HS. I am honored and extremely humbled to lead the Vista Ridge Ranger Softball Team as head coach, and I am excited for the future of our school and our softball program.
I’d like to share a little bit about myself with you. I come from a family of coaches and teachers. My father was a high school football and wrestling coach at Lubbock Estacado for 40 years. He is now retired and a track coach at Lubbock Christian. My mother is a retired high school counselor, and my sister is a federal agent stationed in Lubbock, TX. My wife Sarah and I have two dogs named Coach and Chap, and one cat named Pia. I had the opportunity to be a multisport athlete in football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and power lifting at Lubbock Estacado HS. After graduating from the Lubbock Estacado Medical Magnet Program, I started my college career looking to become a doctor of dental surgery. After 1 year of pre dentistry, God called me into another direction, and I switched my major to education as I wished to follow in the footsteps of my family. I finished my bachelor’s degree at Lubbock Christian University, and began coaching football and baseball at my alma mater in Lubbock. After 3 years as a varsity infield coach, we compiled 3 district championships, and 1 state tournament appearance. After leaving Estacado, I then coached football, basketball, and softball at Brownfield HS. After 2 years at Brownfield, I then followed God’s path to Cedar Park HS in Leander ISD. While at Cedar Park, I coached softball, girls’ basketball, and football. Within those 10 years, I was blessed to be a part of 3 state championship teams, and learned many valuable lessons which I plan to implement into the Vista Ridge Softball culture.
As God leads me to another path here at Vista Ridge, I am very excited to join an already successful program and to continue the tradition of excellence. I believe that the culture here at Vista Ridge is a absolutely incredible, and I look forward to continuing to help student athletes towards the path of success.
Go Rangers!
Sincerely,
Coach J.R. Romero
