AP Capstone is a two-year AP elective program consisting of AP Seminar and AP Research. AP Seminar (1st course) is designed for students to understand academic conversations and how to develop a research-based argument. AP Research (2nd course) is designed for students to join the academic conversation by applying what they learned in the Seminar class and conducting a year-long, original research study.
AP Capstone has two separate designations: AP Capstone Certificate, AP Capstone Diploma and is now a designation on the Common Application.
- Students who take these two courses and score a 3+ on the required elements in each course are eligible for the AP Capstone Certificate.
- Students who meet the certificate requirements and earn a 3+ on any four additional AP exams are eligible for the AP Capstone Diploma.
