Welcome to AP Bio, Advanced Bio, & SRD. This is my 18th year teaching and my 8th year at VRHS. I'm a science/biology nerd at heart. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies (Education). I actually started as a Meteorology Major and switched (after the advice of my wife) my Junior year of college.
My wife is an Assisstant Principal in Round Rock ISD and she's awesome. I have 2 wonderful daughters, Josephine and Scarlett. My dad is a professor in the Veterinary College at Texas A&M. My mom is a retired high school counselor. My brother is in the Air Force and currently lives in Nevada.
I love Texas A&M sports of all kinds (Hey... I grew up in College Station). My favorite sport is baseball and I am a huge Houston Astros fan. I love vinyl (you know... the things that spin around and play music). My tastes in music are all over the place... however I grew up on emo music. I love Parks & Rec, Friends, Stranger Things (mainly just Steve), Community, and Bob's Burgers.
This class is designed to be like a college class... it will be challenging. I'm preparing you for the AP Exam. It doesn't mean it will be boring, though. We'll have fun, we'll do cool labs, we may even get on a few tangents here and there.
All you have to do is follow FARR and you will go FAR (see what I did there...)
F- Fun: Yes, I expect you to learn. However, it doesn't mean you can't have fun while you do it. Come in each day with a positive attitude and I'll do the same.
A - Achievement: Set goals and work towards them. My hope is you at least want a 3 on the AP Exam. Want a 4 or a 5? I can give you the tools necessary to get there, but you have to do the work.
R- Respect: Respect Mr. Hoffman and your classmates. We do labs, we do group projects, you have to be able to work with everyone even if they aren't your bestie. I doubt you will always agree with me... if you don't, be respectful about it. Come talk to me, we'll work it out.
R - Responsibility: I can't do the work for you and I won't always give you the answers. It's your job to do your homework, notes, classwork, and to study.
