About me
Greetings! I'm Ms. Benefield and I am delighted to be an English II co-teacher here at Glenn High School! I'm certified in English 8-12, Special Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL).
I was in the US Air Force for 6 years and an adolescent mental health counselor for 6 years. I am a life long learner and excited to share that enthusiasm! I have been an educator in Texas for 11 years. I also earned my School Counseling Certification and did 4 years of School Counseling in Austin area high schools.
School wasn't easy for me growing up and I struggled trying to figure out reading and writing. So I truly identify with students that find English Language Arts difficult. Over the years, I learned strategies to make it more fun and easier to engage with especially when it is seem repetitive and dry that I like to share with students.
Although, I am not certified in Math 8-12, I enjoy tutoring Algebra I and Geometry. Math didn't come easy for me so I taught myself techniques and strategies to excel at math. Also, my son was diagnosed with dyscalculia. I saw him grow from not understanding basic math to being able to pass the Algebra I STAAR EOC on the second try! He didn't give up and that made all the difference. Therefore, I have confidence that any math student can make progress.
Also, I am patient and try to meet the student where they are at. I believe in using calculators, daily practice, and doing all the steps until we can be creative with problem solving.
Out of the week, I am available during Grizzly Time for English I & II, Algebra I, and Geometry tutoring. I also tutor in other subjects like Spanish I, if necessary. Also, if a student or parent makes an appointment with me we can be flexible on scheduling. Contact me via email to set up a time for during school or after school tutoring.
