Welcome to the Leander ISD Elementary Virtual Summer Mini-Sessions! We are excited to bring you over 30 sessions on a variety of topics and instructional strategies!

Participants will receive credit for sessions by completing a reflection form. The link for the reflection form is provided by presenters at the end of the session. Credits will be awarded by session at the end of the July Professional Learning window, upon submission of session feedback/reflection.

Early Childhood Community Collaborative
(For PreK and Early Childhood Special Education teachers) Get to know the EC department’s support staff and your early childhood general education and special education teammates. Collaboration will include gathering input on professional learning needs for the early childhood department to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.

In this session we will explore the titles from FPC and consider how these can be windows, mirrors, and more for our students. Behavior Basics: The Principles of Problem Behavior
Join us to learn about the principles of problem behavior. We will cover how to define a behavior, how to figure out the purpose of the behavior, and strategies to add to your tool box for working with students that might have problem behaviors in your classroom.

By using the Universal Design for Learning framework, you can create learning experiences that remove barriers, spark curiosity, and fuel deep learning for students with diverse needs.

De-escalation Basics
This session will provide you with the tools you need to identify escalating behavior in your students. You will learn the phases of escalating behavior and how to intervene at each phase. Additional information on how to recognize these signs in virtual learning will be provided.
Speech and Language Strategies in the Classroom
Come explore how speech and language impact communication in the classroom! We will discuss how speech language pathologists analyze language skills and specific articulation patterns in students. We will talk about the overlap that communication skills have with all areas of academics and classroom behavior. Leave this session with a general knowledge of how articulation, language, voice, and fluency can be addressed in the classroom with strategies that you are already using!
