Overview
The State Board of Education periodically nominates educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers to serve on a committee to review, revise, and adopt Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each subject of the required curriculum. These standards lay out the knowledge and skills that students should master for each grade level. New English Language Arts/Reading standards for grades 9-12 have been officially adopted and will be implemented beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. For more information, please see the TEKS Review and Revision page.
With the adoption of new TEKS, the state of Texas provides school districts funding to purchase instructional materials as resources to teach the state standards. School districts may choose how to allocate the money (i.e., textbooks, technology, classroom libraries of books, teacher training, etc.). For more information, please see Proclamation 2020.
The Leander Independent School District has convened an Instructional Materials Adoption Committee to review state-approved English Language Arts instructional materials and make a recommendation to the School Board.
For more information about the committee, the adoption process, and materials under consideration, please explore this website including the links to the left.
