Deeper Learning Outcomes
Communicate effectively: Students clearly organize their data, findings, and thoughts.
Students communicate complex concepts to others in both written and oral presentations.
Students structure information and data in meaningful and useful ways.
Students listen to and incorporate feedback and ideas from others.
Students provide constructive and appropriate feedback to their peers.
Students understand that creating a quality final communication requires review and revision of multiple drafts.
Students tailor their message for the intended audience.
Deeper learning requires a broader range of conscious learning behaviors from students than traditional schoolwork. They must accept responsibility for expending the time and energy necessary to think about a task, select the proper learning strategies, and judge how well those strategies are working. When students encounter difficulty or setbacks, deeper learning requires that they diagnose the type of difficulty they are facing, select appropriate strategies to resolve the difficulty, and continue forward toward their learning goal. In addition, deeper learning expects students to be able to meet shared goals with others as well as to engage in the self-reflection necessary to continue learning throughout their lives.

PBL Works
Complex Communication occurs when students: listen and read carefully to understand the message; explain thoughts and ideas through words, writing, and body language; use technology to enhance a message; and communicate effectively with people in diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Integration of comprehension and sharing of information and ideas - Understands, recognizes, and selects appropriate and compelling information and perspectives provided through various sources (e.g., close reading of texts and/or media, attention and adjustment to nonverbal cues, active listening of oral presentations and discussions).
Discussing or presenting information and ideas in ways that are appropriate to the situation, purpose, and audience - Creates an engaging and appropriate message for the intended audience, task, and purpose, whether orally, in writing, through multimedia, or a combination of these modes; actively engages in discourse by expressing feelings, preferences, needs, and opinions in a way that is considers others; and uses nonverbal communication (e.g., body language, gestures, voice) to reinforce or replace other forms of presentation.
Implementation of multimedia communication tools - Enhances comprehension, presentation, and sharing of content information through the thoughtful use of information communication technology (e.g., digital tools), which moves beyond superficial use.
Recognition of culture and differences - Deliberately accounts for differing values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors found in different cultural and social backgrounds in communication.
