AP Exam
A student may receive high school credit if they take an AP exam for the foreign language and score high enough. Students who take an AP exam and score a 3 will receive credit for the foreign language for Level I and Level II (i.e. Chinese I and Chinese II). If a student scores a 4 on the AP exam, he/she will earn credit for Level I, II, and III of the foreign language (i.e. Chinese, I, Chinese, II, and Chinese III). If the student scores a 5 on the AP exam, he/she will earn credit for Level I, II, III, and IV of the high school course.
A student can take the AAPPL and the AP test. However, there is no point in taking both exams if the student is planning on taking the AP exam. The student can receive both high school and potentially college credit (dependent on University) by taking the AP exam. If a student were to take both the AAPPl and the AP exam, the student would be earning the same high school credits twice.
In this case, the recommendation is that the student only take the AP exam and receive both high school and university credit with one test.
To register for an AP exam, the student would need to talk to the high school dean of instruction. Exams cost approximately $90 and are paid for by the parent. Students can take the AP exam as soon as their 8th grade year but would have to go to the high school campus to take it. Taking the exam as a 9th grader is soon enough since the scores do not affect GPA. This way, the score is assured to be on their high school campus.
