Grading in the Theatre Department is based on three key factors:
Participation (40%) – Participation is a very important part of a Theatre Class. Participation Grades will be taken daily and the weekly average will be recorded in the grade book. Everyday students are expected to come to class prepared, do their best, and remain on task. Following the classroom rules (which were created to help the students stay on task) will be a big part of their participation grade.
In Class Written Work & Short Assignments (20%) – Students will be given written work and/or short in-class assignments during theatre. This can include but is not limited to: entries in their theatre notebooks, worksheets, written summaries, occasional quizzes, and personal/peer performance feedback. Students will be given enough time to finish these assignments in class but will be allowed to take them home and finish as necessary.
Performances and Projects (40%) – At the end of each unit of study, students will be required to present a performance or a final project. Students will be given a rubric to follow that will explain the different components of and expectations for the assignment.
Students have the opportunity to re-do work and get extra credit in order to raise their grade.
Assignment Re-Dos - After receiving a grade on an assignment, students have one week to re-do the assignment for a better grade if so desired.
Extra Credit - At any point during the semester, students can receive 5 points of extra credit on their lowest grade by seeing a live show. Live shows include: theatrical performances, dance shows, concerts, etc. In order to receive the extra credit, students should bring in a ticket stub and program with their name clearly written on/attached to the documents. If tickets and/or programs are not distributed at the event, a "selfie" at the event may be used as a substitute, along with a signed note from a parent saying the student attended the performance.
