Hello parents and families! My name is Kirsten Denny and I could not be any more excited to start off the year. It is going to be an exciting (albeit different) year full of fun, learning and adventure. I am from Seattle, Washington and moved to Austin in August of 2015. While it was difficult leaving my family in Seattle I absolutely love being in Austin. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, watching Seahawks games, being with loved ones and frequenting Torchy’s Tacos. On a Saturday you could find me walking Town Lake and enjoying Zilker Park or chocolate chip pancakes at Magnolia Cafe (hopefully soon!).

The beginning of this year will look a little different than years prior. There are many things families can do to prepare for virtual learning. One thing you can do is practice having your child login to the computer, launchpad and frequently used websites. Teacher's will help walk them through the areas of Seesaw and other components but practicing can help make them feel more confident! Try to have your student find a "virtual learning spot" where they can reduce the amount of background noise (if possible) and have what they need for the day nearby. Remember to have students login to join us for synchronous virtual learning! Another big tip to is read with your kiddo for twenty minutes daily!
