Professional Disclosure Statement
Purpose of the Program
The purpose of the comprehensive school counseling program is to provide all Leander ISD students with equal access to a comprehensive program which addresses their needs in the area of prevention, intervention, and support services.
Goals
Through the counseling curriculum, students will be assisted in developing skills needed to develop their full educational potential. Our program follows the ASCA model for school counseling programs.
Responsive services
Are used to aid any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student's continued educational, career, personal, or social development at risk. Services include individual and group counseling.
Individual planning system
Will be used to guide a student with educational, career, personal and social development. Individual planning includes PALS, Mentors, Backpack program, RTI and 504 services.
System support
Will support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and community members in promoting the educational, career, personal and social development of students.
Techniques
Counselors will use group sessions, classroom and individual guidance. At no time will the counselors engage in therapy or use techniques therapeutic in nature which are not appropriate in the public school setting.
Confidentiality
Counselors will respect a student's right to privacy unless (1) a parent/guardian requests information, (2) matters discussed pertain to suicide or possible harm to another person, (3) matters discussed pertain to any type of abuse, (4) there is a legal requirement for disclosure, or (5) there is a necessity to consult with other professionals.
