Attendance Hours

Texas law requires students to attend at least 90% of each class to receive course credit.

Once a student misses 10% of a class, they will owe 1.5 attendance make-up hours for each additional class period missed, whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Attendance hours are calculated by class, so it's important to monitor your attendance regularly.

The following Attendance Codes generate hours owed:

• A (Absence–Excused)

• D (Absent w/Doctor Note–full day)

• O (Unverified–Unexcused)

• U (Unexcused)

• 5 (Late Excused Absence)

• 6 (Late Unexcused Absence)

What is the difference between owing hours and truancy?

• Owing hours determines whether a student receives credit for their courses.

• Truancy determines whether a student is meeting the required attendance laws.
