Printmaking 2: 

Students in Printmaking will explore and refine their skills using a variety of printmaking materials and tools. They will become familiar with different printmaking styles and techniques by expanding on personal themes, applying design and technical skills, and studying and analyzing artwork. 

Printmaking 3 & 4: 

Printmaking 3 and 4 students will take techniques and concepts learned in Printmaking 2 and explore larger, more complex themes from areas including art history, current events, and personal experience. Students will focus on learning advanced printmaking techniques, exploring alternative plate mediums/inks.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Sketchbook and Google Classroom:

All students will be required to keep a process portfolio (sketchbook), which will be used for notes, research, brainstorming and planning for projects, drawing compositions, practicing with media as well as, self-reflections and art critiques. We will also be using Google Classroom for some assignments and that is where I will also post anything we did in class, so if you are absent be sure to check there and/or with me to see what you missed.

Technology in the Classroom:

I highly encourage students to participate in our districts mLISD laptop initiative or regularly bring their own laptops or tablets from home. Other than using Google Classroom, we will occasionally be using our devices (preferably laptops) for assessment, instructional videos, quizzes, art critiques, research, and other activities.

EXPECTATIONS:

These are advanced courses and students will be held to higher expectations and standards in their artwork as well as, behavior. Students are expected to come in with an appreciation for art, motivation to want to learn and improve their skills, and a willingness to explore their full potential; at times this may mean students will be expected to use certain media and techniques they are not comfortable with.

All students will also be expected to create original ideas for their work, copyrighted images are not allowed to be used. I would recommend getting in the habit of taking a lot of photos in and outside of school!

GRADING PROJECTS:  At the end of each major project, the student will be expected to submit a clear photo of their artwork to Google Classroom. This is where the work will be assessed based on a rubric with criteria specific to the assignment and skills being demonstrated. Student's work will be assessed based on MASTERY of the skills, not their participation. Students will also write artist statements and reflect on their work and the entire process (what struggles did they have, how did they overcome those struggles, what did they do to challenge themselves, what was successful about their final product, what could they have done or still do to make it better...etc.).
