Ms. Weiss' Pack

Dear Third Grade Families,

Welcome to the Pack! My name is Ms. Jessica Weiss and I have the honor of being your child's third grade teacher! I am very excited to begin my third year at Monta Jane Akin Elementary and my tenth year teaching in LISD. My family is no stranger to the profession and I am fortunate to follow in the footsteps of both my mother and grandmother.

I was born in Los Angeles, California but moved to Austin at the age of 4. I am the middle of three children (I have an older sister and a younger brother) and was lucky to have grown up in a wonderful environment surrounded by three loving adults (my mother, father and grandmother). As of now I am the proud mother of Jordie, a year-old Australian Shepherd.

When I was growing up I had a very unique perspective on teaching. I followed my mother to Robertson Elementary each day and watched as she created a classroom filled with joy and learning. As well, my grandmother (a teacher of 51 years who retired from the LA Unified School District) was an example of patient and loving guidance. It is their example that I strive to live up to. I believe that each child is a gift to the world. In my classroom I wish for children to work towards reaching their full potential.

I feel that communication is vital to a great parent-teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns. I ask only that you not call during instructional periods (unless it is an emergency) because my full attention is on the children. I also typically check my e-mail after the children have left for the day. I am available after school or before school for conferences by appointment.
