World Regions Quiz Study Guide
As noted on the course outline for APHUG, one of the requirements for this course is the identification of major world regions. We will have our atlases open all year and learn locations of most of the world countries but we will start with the major world regions! May 12th will be here before you know it so let’s take some time and review our major world regions!
What am I doing? Reviewing major world regions in preparation for the APHUG exam
How will you know that I learned the regions? You will take a quiz in class
When is the quiz? Please ask your teacher
What is the quiz format? fill in the blank (no word bank) and short answer
What do I need to know?
Names of major world regions and at least 3 countries located in each
Countries that overlap in more than one region and why
be able to identify at least 3 countries on different continents
you may NOT use Brazil as an example
Many of these regions overlap or have transitional boundaries, such as Brazil, which is part of Latin America but has Portuguese colonial heritage. Although some regions are based on culture, others are based on physiographic features, such as sub-Saharan Africa which is the part of the continent south of the Sahara Desert. Not all geographers agree on how each region is defined. One geographer may place Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Middle East, but another may place them in Central Asia as both countries were formerly parts of the Soviet Union. Likewise, some geographers use the term Middle East, whereas others use Southwest Asia to describe the same region.
