Summer Collins is an ELA Teacher at LPS-Oakland and is currently serving as a Teach for America Corps Member. She is pursuing a Masters in Education from National University. Summer graduated from UC Berkeley in 2019 with degrees in English and Economics, concentrating her studies on social movements, urban inequality, and art as a form of protest. She has done work in sexual violence prevention, research on affordable housing and displacement, and policy research in local and state government offices. She grew up in a small town called Lodi, CA, and post-graduation, spent the last year in NYC tutoring high schoolers and volunteering at a non-profit for homelessness alleviation. She pursued teaching out of a love for community and a commitment to empower and grow with her students. In her free time, she plays guitar, writes, paints, and drinks coffee all day.
