Jessica Sanchez was born and raised in East Oakland, CA. Growing up, she attended both public and charter schools, which molded her into the individual she is today. Ms. Sanchez attended Elmhurst Elementary, Alliance Academy Middle School and LPS Oakland R&D and participated in the Mills College Upward Bound college enrichment program.
Ms. Sanchez attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned her BA in Sociology with a minor in Education. She was a student intern for the Sustainability Office held under the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Internship Program. As the Education and Outreach Coordinator, she oversaw a group of 5 student interns, managed their newsletter, organized and facilitated weekly meetings and organized a 200+ attendee retreat.
As a senior in college, Ms. Sanchez had the privilege to study abroad in a Human Rights and Cultural Memory program in Argentina and Chile. While abroad, she realized she wanted to give back to Oakland because that is where it all started for her.
"I am beyond excited to return to LPS Oakland R&D as a College Course Facilitator. I have learned that I am passionate about Education and want to spend the rest of my life working within it. I look forward to this new chapter of my life where I hope to share my experiences and support students in any possible way that I can." - Ms. Sanchez
