7th grade math

2020 - 2021

Welcome to the new school year and to Mr. Kim's 7th grade math class. This is the introductory course into the math sequence. This course includes the number system, the ratio and proportional relationships, expressions and equations, geometry, statistics, and probability. These will be the skills necessary for the next levels of mathematics.

Required Supplies: -pencils and eraser (no pens for homework except for correcting)

Expected behavior: You should arrive at the virtual or physical class on time and have all materials ready. No calculators of any sort will be out or used for the math class without the prior approval of the teacher. You shall RESPECT everyone in the class. Virtual class expectations

To earn the grade of an "O" on your citizenship grade you will follow all the expected behavior as well as participate and cooperate during the class time. You must also have zero tardies in the classroom. An"S" constitutes not following certain behaviors or 1 tardy. An"N" is 3 tardies and a "U" is 4 or more unexcused tardies.

Chromebook: Once the school reopens, remember to bring your own personal Chromebook every day to class, even if it is not used. If you do not have it your citizenship and/or grade may drop as a result.

Work Requirements: There will be homework Monday through Friday, unless instructed otherwise. You can check your previous assignments and upcoming assignments in Google Classroom. The assignments on the calendar are prone to change at any time. An appropriately prepared student can expect to spend an average of 20 - 25 minutes per night doing homework. The homework should be ready at the beginning of class for the next day in your notebook. Please make sure to check all your work before coming to class that way if you have any questions I can address it first thing when class begins. All problems need to be written NEATLY and LEGIBLY, all work needs to be shown, and all answers should be circled or highlighted to receive full credit. No partial credit will be given. Each completed homework assignment will be worth 4 points. You will be submitting your work through Google Classroom. You may submit some assignments by photo. If that is the case, please take a clear and up close photo of your work with your name clearly written in the upper left corner of each page photographed and the writing must be dark and readable. It will not be accepted (grade of zero) if I cannot read your work. You will also need to hit the “submit” or “mark as done” button in Google Classroom once you upload an assignment. Please do not submit “blank” or “incomplete” work. If a situation arises where I ask you to revise an assignment and re-submit in Google Classroom, please make sure you email me letting me know that you re-submitted the assignment so I can go back and input a grade for you for that assignment. BP/AR 6154: Seventh and Eighth-grade students may have up to 80 minutes of homework per night. This time includes preparing for upcoming assessments and projects. Students taking advanced or high school classes may have additional homework expectations in alignment with the high school courses as described below.

These homework time allotments have been determined with the expectation that students work in a distraction-free and focused manner. Families should follow the pacing recommendations from teachers to avoid the need to spend many hours on completing assignments or preparing for assessments.

On the night before a cumulative assessment or project is due, no other homework should be assigned in that subject area to allow for review, preparation and project completion. To support student wellbeing, no homework will be assigned during school breaks, school-observed holidays, and standardized testing time.

Homework practices should be reviewed periodically by the teachers at each grade level or each subject area to ensure alignment to academic standards and consistency of practices. Teachers will collaborate to ensure that assessment days are varied and do not result in students having three or more assessments on one day.

Late work: If you turn in the completed assignment one day late, you can earn 3 points. Beyond the one day, late work will not be accepted! The only exception is due to an excused absence.

Absence: If you have an excused absence, you will have the same number of days you were absent plus one more day to make up the work. If you are absent for an exam or quiz, you will be given the exam the day you return.

Quizzes: There will be short quizzes given throughout the year. It is given to prepare you for the unit tests.

Projects: Will be announced during the school year.

Tests: Tests may include multiple choice and/or free answer problems with work required to receive full credit. Students may receive partial credit if the work is done correctly (during the virtual time, tests will have immediate feedback for problems once the test is completed). We will go over the test once it is graded so that the students may see where they made their errors, if any. I recommend that you hold onto your tests to study for future exams, such as the final.

Final Exam: You will be given a final test at the end of each semester, totaling two throughout the entire year. Each final will contain material that was covered in that semester. You will be given plenty of notice before the final. These tests do not go home.

Extra Credit: I do not give extra credit in this class so please do not ask me. However, if there is a possibility for you to do extra credit, I will let you know.

Letter grade policy: - Formative (quizzes) 20% of grade

Assignments (homework, tasks, and project) 40% of grade

Summative (tests, finals) 40% of grade

Grading: Grade is based on the accumulated percentage of all the points earned.

A- 90% - 100%

B - 80% - 89.9%

C - 70% - 79.9%

D - 60% - 69.9%

F - anything else
