This is my first year teaching at Indian Land, and I feel so thankful to be teaching choir to so many passionate students.
I went to college just outside of Asheville, NC, at Mars Hill University where I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a vocal emphasis. I have always been involved in music, and knew from a young age I wanted to make music for the rest of my life. (For career day in 1st Grade, I dressed up as a rock star.) I come from a very musical family, (my dad used to play bass in rock bands when he was young, and he has even performed with people like Sammy Hagar and Slash) so I am lucky to have had a lot of support from them when it came to my musical dreams. Growing up immersed in music has been the most meaningful part of my life, so I know how important providing a musical education to students is.
I also grew up playing volleyball, and I know that there is often a separation between athletics and the arts. I would love to bridge that gap and encourage more students to do both if they want to. Sports and music, and all extracurriculars, are really important factors in a student's life.
Throughout my time here, I want to inspire students to make music a part of their life. They don't have to pursue it as a future career, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be a part of them. Music is an integral part of society and world culture. Music is considered to be the universal language for a reason; it connects us to the people and the world around us.
