Classroom procedures
Grading Policy
Most of our assignments will be graded by either 10 points, 20 points, or 30 points. There are a few exceptions where some assignments can be worth 40 or 50 points.
The goal of this grading policy is to have class be more focused on participation and completion than stressing about tests.
Anything not handed in will be given a 0 but late work is accepted within a reasonable timeframe.
10 points- Weekly warmups, notes, and in-class participation.
20 points- Video lessons, in-class assignments, small projects.
30,40, 50 points- Major projects, end-of-the-unit projects, and tests.
Classroom expectations
Don't be disrespectful: There are different ways that someone can be disrespectful such as talking back, inappropriate language in the classroom, name-calling, bullying classmates, etc.
Don't be disruptive: Disruptive behavior can include yelling, talking when we are supposed to be quiet, not being where you are supposed to be, not following directions, etc.
All school rules will be enforced: Dress code, cell phone policy, etc.
Discipline Policy
I use a tiered discipline system that is focused on students getting an opportunity to adjust their actions on their own before receiving consequences. Of course, this is for minor disruptions and not major issues. Major issues will be handled immediately.
Verbal Warning and a reminder on what to do
Name on board (final warning before write-up)
Checkmark next to the name (write-up)
Anything beyond this will result in administration called and removal from the classroom.
Write-up Policy
First write-up: One-on-one conversation with me to talk through things and see if we can find an opportunity to create better decisions. Middle schoolers make mistakes and I understand that! This is a chance to learn from mistakes.
Second write-up: Parent contact. I will reach out via email to discuss the first two write-ups and what are some solutions to create a better path forward. I am more than happy to talk on the phone or in-person as well.
Third write-up: Administration contact. This will be considered a major write-up and the administration team will handle consequences.
Fourth and beyond write-ups: I will determine what is best in these situations that help create a positive change and limit the potential for further issues.
