Ms. Brandt's Website

My name is Leslie Brandt and I have been teaching for 38 years.  I  retired from the North Carolina School system where I taught mostly 6th and 4th grades.  I am now in my eigth year in South Carolina and sixth year at Van Wyck, where I enjoy teaching GT students in grades 3 and 4.  This year I will continue to work with 1st and 2nd grade for talent development.  It has been a pleasure meeting and working with the many unique and bright young students who attend the program.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA where I earned a BA in Psychology and became certified as a K-6 teacher. I moved  to the Charlotte area shortly after graduating college and taught in both Mecklenburg and Union counties.  In 2002, I became Nationally Board Certified and renewed my board certification in 2012 and again in 2022.  I am a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers' fan, but also love the Carolina Panthers. 

I have two children, Breanna and Nicolas.  Bre lives in Wilmington and  has a BA in Psychology.  She graduated from UNCW in 2017 with a masters in Social Work.  She is currently working at Elderhaus PACE as the site administrator.   Nic graduated from UNCW in 2017 with a BS in public health and graduated this past May from USC Medical School.  He has started his residency in Wilmnington .

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, cooking, nature, music, and travel.  I look forward to working with your children this year!
