Classplash.de is a site that has some fun apps for drumming, playing recorder, and writing music on a staff. The free, "lite" version of each app has plenty of engagement for students without requiring any expense. Each app can be downloaded for Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS.
1. Rhythmic Village- play built in drum sounds, or use your own rhythm instrument, to drum rhythms and progress through the different game levels, getting harder and using more complex rhythms on each level.
2. Cornelius Composer- a great app for learning to place notes on the music staff and hear them played back
3. Flute Master- A fun app to play a video game controlled by your soprano recorder.
Level 1 starts with three songs which play just one note, B, played precisely when the bat flies into the tower, striking the bat down before it eats all the strawberries. Each level adds a different note from your recorder with different songs. It takes some calibration to adjust your delay settings and your device's microphone, but if you can get the settings right, it's quite fun! Recommended for grades 3, 4, and 5, for use with a soprano recorder. Set the settings for "Baroque" fingering, not "German" fingering. For students without a soprano recorder, consider buying one from Amazon for under $10. Don't spend a lot of money on one. The expensive ones aren't really that much better, if at all. Most any soprano recorder will be great for later use in ILE music classes.
