Welcome to 6th grade science with Ms.Jones. I'm so excited to meet and grow with all of you. I hope this year we will grow as a family and support each other through this academic year. I’m DeQuana Jones, a proud Lancaster, SC native and passionate educator dedicated to inspiring young minds. A graduate of the illustrious Claflin University, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology and have since committed myself to shaping the next generation of learners.
Now entering my 5th year of teaching, I’m honored to have been recognized as A.R. Rucker Middle School’s Beginning Teacher of the Year in both 2024 and 2025, a testament to my dedication to academic excellence and student success.
Beyond the classroom, I find joy in exploring new places through travel, immersing myself in vibrant music, and indulging my love for anime. I believe in bringing creativity, curiosity, and a genuine connection to my students each day, fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Class Description
This course is designed to introduce students to concepts in the areas of scientific inquiry, physical science, life science, and earth science. This course encourages the interaction between content and thinking processes. Students will use the thinking process with science content to plan and conduct experiments based on observations. They will evaluate their findings and draw conclusions to explain their results. Through this course, students will be able to share in the richness and excitement of comprehending the natural world. Students will solve problems creatively, think critically, work cooperatively in teams, use technology effectively, and value lifelong learning.
