The Visual and Performing Arts teachers look forward to hearing from you and working with you this year! If you have any questions about your audition, please send us an email! Don’t be
nervous, simply show us your best work. The point of the focus program is to provide you a

Band: Andrew Sokolowski – andrew.sokolowski@lcsd.k12.sc.us
Students should be prepared to perform the following:
Two Flat-Key Scales and Two Sharp-Key Scales of your choosing (One or Two Octaves, depending on grade level and ability)
A lyrical/technical etude or solo specific to your instrument that demonstrates your best playing ability
(If you need help choosing an etude/solo, email Mr. Sokolowski for selection options).

Students should be prepared to:
1-Sing a one-two minute solo that demonstrates his/her vocal range.
This can be a cappella or with accompaniment.
When selecting your audition song: Pick something that best shows off your voice! Pick
something that you enjoy singing! You can sing from any genre, but please make sure
the lyrics are school appropriate.
2-Sing warm-up exercises led by Mr. Patton
3 - Sing and Perform a short sight singing exercise.
Dance: Shannon Funderburk - shannon.funderburk@lcsd.k12.sc.us
Students should be prepared to:
-Learn and perform a short combo taught during the audition
Perform a 60-90 second solo that showcases individual strengths
in technique and performance
-Demonstrate your BEST traits as a dancer (turns, flexibility, leaps, jumps,
personality, etc.)
-Can be in any style of dance of his/his choice
-Doesn’t have to be original choreography, can be something previously learned
-Music must be clean and appropriate
-All dancers should wear clothing they can easily move in (no jeans)
Please be sure to dance FULL OUT with energy and facial expression in your audition! I want to see you having FUN!

Students will perform two emotionally contrasting monologues. For example: one
showing love and one showing hate, one showing joy and one showing sadness, one showing
happiness and one showing anger, etc. You must show your ability to demonstrate character
and emotion. Performance must use appropriate gestures and blocking. You may NOT use
props or costumes, however a chair and/or table are acceptable. Total time to perform both
monologues back to back is two minutes.

Students should be prepared to play:
1) C, F, G major scales with accurate fingering on both hands. Students may play at whatever
speed they are comfortable with.
2) A piece or section of a piece (at least 16 measures) that demonstrates the current ability level
of the student.

1-Bring 3-5 artworks you have done yourself (not as a group project). (Bring the art or photos of the art) Please only bring one from each of the following categories. If you don't have artwork from a particular
category, please simply select your best work to replace it. Remember, you MUST have 3
images to complete the portfolio.
Categories:
A portrait (picture of a person or animal)
A landscape (picture of outdoors)
A still life drawing (picture of a collection of objects done with pencil, pen, or other drawing
medium)
A 3D piece (sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, etc.)
A painting (picture done with any kind of liquid paints)
2-Be prepared for an in person drawing session
