Jackdaw Book Report Project
What’s a jackdaw book report, you might ask? A jackdaw is a bird that collects bright objects in its nest. A jackdaw book report is a collection of items that reflect the content of a book.
You will create and present a jackdaw book report. You will store your jackdaw artifacts in a decorated shoe box or plastic box. Your jackdaw box can be decorated in a way that is connected to your book. Your name, the book title, and author must be displayed on the cover of your container.
Choose 5 artifacts. One artifact will be written. Suggestions are listed below. If you have another idea for an item that is not included on the list, you may include it in your collection after checking with Mrs. Kilburn to make sure that it is appropriate.
Artifacts: You must have 5 artifacts in your jackdaw container. The artifact may be something from the book such as a tool, a toy, a household item, an item used by a character in the book, an animal that played an important role in the book (fake of course!), or something from nature.
On an index card, write a short explanation of how the artifact relates to an event in the story.
You can read your index cards as you share your artifacts with the class.
Suggested written artifacts
• A map of an event in the book or related to the book.
• A letter from or to a character in the book.
• An advertisement for something that might be sold during the time of the book.
• A report card for one of the characters.
• A poster or postcard related to your book.
• A news story of an event in your book.
• A poem about something in your book.
• A song about something in your book.
• A business card for a character in your book.
• Money that was used during the time of your book.
• Recipe of a food from the time of your book.
• Drawing of a scene from your book.
Students should write a summary of their book, write an index card for each artifact, and prepare their box after Spring Break. Presentations will begin April 9th. Don’t wait until the last minute to do this!
This book report is for a Reading grade. Any questions, just ask!
Note: Students should work on their boxes/artifacts at home. I have extra shoe boxes, if you need one.
