Love Comes at a Cost
My heart for our students, which I believe comes from the heart of the Lord, is that they love, respect, and honor one another as they wish to have for themselves. The incredibly influential culture of our day and the impact of the digital age has made huge headway in distorting what is most important. The many attempts to train the teenage brain to be satisfied with shallowness and demand speed. But, God. We know and believe that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead can live in us through the power of the Holy Spirit, based on the cross, cancelling the power of sin and death. Now that is weaponry (see Ephesians 6)!
In Morning Meet over the past few weeks, we have been walking through Romans 12. It is so jam packed with essentials of Christian Ethics and makes for a great devotional source when taken chunk by chunk. Romans 12: 9 and 10 (CSB) states: “9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good. 10 Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Take the lead in honoring one another.” We have discussed the fact that Paul put those 2 phrases, “Detest evil; cling to what is good,” between 2 sections on how to love and honor one another from the heart. Why is that? I believe that the transforming love of Jesus Christ requires and empowers us to walk away from that which separates us from Him. When we cling or as The Message paraphrase says “Hold on for dear life to what is good,” to what honors Him, we become more like Him and reflect the love He has for us. This gives us the motivation to love well and the perseverance to actually walk it out, even when it is hard. That is my prayer for the students at LCS, that they might love one another so very well, so authentically, accessing the power of the Holy Spirit as they cling tightly to what He loves and running for dear life from what will lead us away from that love.
He is risen, He is risen indeed!!! Happy Easter!

I like winter. There, I said it. Judge all you want! There is something so fresh and pure about the cold air on a snowy day. The sun is so bright reflecting off the white snow. I enjoy skiing, hiking in the snow, and I’ve even been known to enjoy shoveling on a peaceful, cold evening while snow lightly falls.
But I don’t want winter to last forever.
Always winter and never Christmas. That was the reality in Narnia until Aslan returned. Sometimes it feels that way in early April in Upstate New York! But I see signs of spring despite the recent flurries and cold nights. Warmth and sunshine and flowers are coming. Soon, all things will be new.
God promises the same. “And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new’” (Revelation 21:5). Someday, all things will be transformed. A sinless creation will be restored. And while we look forward to that day, we also know that God promises that through Christ, we are renewed even now. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Spring time can serve as a reminder of this. What once lay hidden beneath the snow and what was barren for a time, will once more come to life. It often comes slowly, then all at once. We anticipate the arrival and then one day look around us and discover that spring has come.
The vibrancy and beauty of new life, the blossoming flowers and new growth are so encouraging and exciting. I pray that your family experiences renewal this spring. I pray that God will spark new spiritual growth in your children and in your home.
It is only by Christ’s death and resurrection that this new life is possible. As you celebrate Easter, remember God’s faithfulness and blessings and what our Savior did for us.
Happy Easter!
