Hello, wonderful Willard Wildcat Teachers! This literacy hub contains video resources for guiding students in the direction of quality middle-level books they will love.

English teachers read a lot, but they haven't read everything, and there's a perfect book out there for every student. All English students this year are participating in the Spark Movement, which encourages them to read at least a book every week of the year. We need your help in getting these books into their hands. We ask that you join us in pointing students toward these resources and in helping us create great content.

Model Book Talk

This website can be broken down into two sections:

The FOR TEACHERS page, which you are currently reading, is for you. To your left is a model book talk which demonstrates the four essentials for an effective recording. Remember, a three minute video of you talking about and reading a favorite book is just as effective as one with images, music, and animation. Your students will appreciate whatever you are comfortable with.
The WMS BOOK TALKS page, which contains a variety of videos broken down by author, genre, and title.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Our hope is to update this website frequently with book talks from teachers, administrators, and community members. Please consider recording a book talk yourself and encouraging other adults to do so. Not comfortable recording yourself? If you know of a great pre-recorded author book talk, like the one below from Cece Bell, author of the uproarious and heartfelt El Deafo, you can use the form to submit that as well, and we'll place it with the other book talks.
