Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

PBIS: The Big Idea

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support is an approach for teaching children appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior. PBIS is a way of creating a common vision of behavioral expectations through consistent language and practices among staff and students.

PBIS is not a curriculum - it is a framework of tiered approaches to address ALL the needs of ALL the members of the school community.

PBIS: Goals

* Foster a safe, more effective school environment

* Promote the prevention of discipline/behavior problems

* Encourage natural success

* Teach and support positive behavior for all students

At Pinebrook, our students are expected to follow the 3 R’s. We are Ready, Responsible and Respectful.

Puma Paw Tickets

The Pinebrook staff loves catching students demonstrating the expected 3R behaviors! When students are “caught” demonstrating an expected behavior, teachers can reward and celebrate them with a paw ticket. All paw tickets earned during the week are deposited into a drawing, where 5 tickets are randomly selected and students will earn a small reward.

Students who have demonstrated a behavior that falls outside of our expectations may be asked by staff members to “Pause & Think.” This means that the student should consider the action or choice he or she just made and respond to the staff member with what they should have been doing. This common language allows for an environment of respect within our school.

The next time you’re in your child’s teacher’s classroom, look to see how the PBIS tenants are woven into the classroom structure and environment.

How can Parents be involved with PBIS at home?

  • Encourage your child to show the 3R’s at home:

Be Ready

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

  • Talk about the expected behaviors in the different areas of our school.

Expected Behaviors at School

Has your student earned a Puma Paw at School?
