By day, Andrew Schlaf is a Special Education teacher, and by afternoon the co-director of Stone Hill Dramatic Arts. He has been involved in theatre and the performing arts for the last 25 years. His experience includes technical work, pit orchestra performance, and directing/co-directing all of the Stone Hill Dramatic Arts productions thus far. His experience as a performer falls within the realms of theatre, band and orchestral music, and the marching arts.
Outside of his work at Stone Hill, Mr. Schlaf is heavily involved in the performing arts. He is the Assistant Marching Band Director for the Broad Run High School Marching Band as well a staff member and program coordinator for the Indoor Guard and Drumline Programs. Mr. Schlaf also works as a designer and staff member for the John Champe High School Winter Guard. On top of the design and direction part of the performing arts, administratively, Mr. Schlaf sits on the Executive Board of the Atlantic Indoor Association and is the Middle School Chair for the Virginia Thespians.
Mr. Schlaf believes that everyone has a place in the performing arts and should find the place that lets them shine the best. He is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space for ALL students, no matter who they are or where they come from, if they want to be there, there is a spot for them in this program. One of his favorite things about working with Stone Hill Dramatic Arts is seeing students find their voice and their light and truly shine. He looks forward to another year of working with the greatest middle schoolers on this planet.
Mary-Rose Amos is a Special Education teacher and co-director for the Stone Hill Middle School Drama Club. Her passion for the performing arts began early, and she has cultivated her skills in a wide array of theatrical roles for over 30 years. Her extensive experience includes co-directing the successful SHMS production of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. in the spring of 2025.
Since 1990, Ms. Amos has contributed to countless theatrical productions both on and off the stage. She's been a stage manager, prop master, and a key player in design, serving as a costume designer, seamstress, and makeup designer. She has also shined in the spotlight as a named and ensemble actor, and her vocal talents have been showcased as a soloist and chorus member in various local choirs and musical productions.
Ms. Amos is a strong believer in lifelong learning and has continued to hone her craft through workshops with noted vocal directors, including former SHMS choir teachers Annabelle Mills and Jordan Markwood. She is dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive environment where students can build confidence and find a sense of belonging. She eagerly anticipates another year of successful performances and, most importantly, fun with the students of Stone Hill Middle School.
