Principal's Weekly Update

Dear Dominion Trail Parents,

Wow, what a week... PBIS assembly, book fair, fire engine demonstration, and spaghetti dinner.  Thank you to everyone who helped out with the book fair.  We had such a big group volunteers to help.   A very special thank you to Sue Radloff for donating to the PTA and sponsoring the spaghetti dinner last night.  We found that both the book fair and spaghetti dinner was so well attended, we went through 50 pounds of spaghetti (usually 32) and the book fair hit their monetary goal in one day.  Both events were a huge success.  We look forward to the next spaghetti dinner.

Remember, make sure to follow us on Twitter or check out our webpage to see pictures of the great things that are happening at DTES.  These are great conversation starters for the family.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Jeff Joseph - Principal

Life Lesson #6

*Adapted from Ron Clark's Essential 55

Each week we challenge the students to practice some important life lessons that teach civility, manners, and build community. We hope you will place extra focus on each lesson in the week to come.

If you win or do well at something, do not brag. If you lose do not show anger. Instead, say something like, “Great game” or don’t say anything at all.

#5 If someone in the class wins a game and does something well, we will congratulate that person

#4 Make Eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times

#3 Respect other students’ comments, opinions, ideas, and beliefs.

#2 When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying "Yes Ma'am" or No sir."

#1 When you greet someone new, look them in the eye, offer a firm handshake, and introduce yourself.

PTA Info

Spirit wear pre-orders were delivered to classrooms early this week. We are still waiting on a shipment of PJ pants, so there are a few orders that did not receive their pants yet. We expect those early next week and will deliver them as soon as possible. If you have not received your order, please first check your child's backpack, then contact your child's teacher.

No bones about it, you don't want to miss Monster Mash - Friday, October 25th from 6:30-8:30pm. Purchase admission and activity tickets using the form in this week's Thursday folders, or purchase online here. Please donate items to our concession stand, and volunteer an hour during the event.

Fire Engine at DTES

Thank to Jimmy Olevson (husband of Mrs. Olevson, our music teacher and father to one of our kindergartners, CJ seen next to dad) for bringing a couple of students to school today in this fancy vehicle.  Also, for taking the time to talk with our kindergarten and preschool classes about the fire engine.  The kids loved it.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is asking for families who have a child with a disability and is provided special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to participate in the 2018-2019 Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey. The online survey is now open and available for completion in English and Spanish at the following websites:

•        English Version:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VDOEENGLISH

•        Spanish Version: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VDOEESPANOL

Families who have more than one child receiving special education services are requested to complete a survey for each of their children. It is important to note that your responses are recorded anonymously and cannot be personally linked to your child.  The survey concludes January 31, 2020.

Watch DOGS

We wanted to remind you that on October  17th, we will host our Watch Dog Dad's Kick-Off event in our cafe at 6:30 pm.  We will have pizza for our male role models and the children you come with.

Watch Dog Dad's is a program that encourages fathers and/or father-figures to make a positive impact on the lives of our children by volunteering to serve at least one day during the year.
