The most current information can be accessed our LCPS Gifted and Talented webpage.
The eligibility process consists of three areas: test scores, teacher observation, and student work samples. For a child to be identified as needing gifted services, students will need supporting evidence for two of the three areas.
Qualifying Test Scores:
CogAT: 97th percentile or higher in two or more batteries (not the composite)
Teacher Observation:
The current classroom teacher will fill out a form identifying the strengths of your child. You will fill out the same observation form for your child which will be sent home after I receive your permission slip.
Student Work Samples:
We collect these "profile pieces" during 3rd grade SEARCH lessons throughout the year. I always let the students know when we're having a profile lesson. I collect these pieces and use them to create their portfolio of work. Parents do not need to provide work samples for their portfolio, however, you may include work samples when you fill out the parent observation form.
Fourth graders this year will also complete these lessons during SEARCH time this fall as the eligibility process was interrupted last year due to Covid.
If your child is a 5th grader, I will need to pull your child from class to complete these lessons. But again, it is not required for you to provide any work samples.
