Costume and Makeup Info

Students are generally responsible for shoes and undergarments and makeup.  Only make purchases after you carefully review slides below that describe the required pieces.

Hair and Makeup Details for Seussical the Musical

ALL SHOES, MAKEUP, AND HAIR SUPPLIES NEED TO BE AT SCHOOL BY TUESDAY, MARCH 17th and will remain at school through the shows. If students would like to rehearse in their show shoes prior to the 17th, please have them carry back and forth until the Tuesday date.

PLEASE BE SURE ALL SHOES ARE LABELED INSIDE EACH SHOE.

In order to protect our costumes, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENT IS SHOWERED WITH CLEAN HAIR AND APPLIED DEODORANT EACH SHOW DAY. Many costumes are shared between actors and used multiple times over the years so keeping them fresh is important. Clean hair will allow the styling process to go smoothly.

Please remove all nail polish.

No drawing or writing on any part of the body.

Remove all jewelry including watches, bracelets and earrings.

HAIR AND MAKEUP All cast members (both male and female) need a bag clearly marked with their name containing:

- a foundation (that matches their skin tone)

- black or brown eye liner pencil (no liquid eye liner)

- blush or bronzer

- mascara

- makeup sponges,

- chapstick or vaseline

- Q-Tips

- cotton balls

- facial wipes

- small can of dry shampoo,

- small can of hairspray(for actors with long hair) or hair gel(for actors with short hair)

- a hairbrush

- a comb

- hair ties(for actors with long hair)

- U-shaped hair pins(for actors with long hair) (when removing hair pins and hair ties after each show please collect in a ziplock bag to use for the next performance)

Each actor needs enough supplies to carry them through four shows.

No additional makeup is needed so please don’t send it as storage space is limited. (Eye shadow will be provided for the actors needing eye shadow and applied using q-tips provided by each student.) THERE CAN BE NO SHARING OF ANY PRODUCTS INCLUDING MAKEUP AND HAIR ITEMS.

UNDERGARMENTS All undergarments should be labeled with the actors’ name. These items will be worn under costumes for ease of costume changes.

This year, because all of the shows fall on non-school days, please have your student arrive at the school already dressed in their undergarments.

The undergarment requirements depend on the character played, so see below for specifics:

WHOS (includes MR. AND MRS. MAYOR, CADETS, and GRINCH) MALE WHO ACTORS:

- a plain white undershirt (no words or images)

- a pair of dark colored compression styled shorts (not athletic shorts as they don't fit under costumes)

- one pair of white dress socks FEMALE WHO ACTORS: - a white thin strapped camisole/shirt and a bra that is white or skin colored. No sports bras, racerback bras or bralettes. - dark colored spandex shorts that will be worn under their costume - one or two pairs of white tights (tights not hose please – hose rip too easily)

JUNGLE CITIZENS (includes HORTON, CAT, and WICKERSHAM BROTHERS) MALE JUNGLE CITIZEN ACTORS:

- a plain black undershirt (no words or images)

- a pair of dark colored compression styled shorts (not athletic shorts as they don't fit under costumes)

- one pair of plain black socks FEMALE JUNGLE CITIZEN ACTORS (this includes girls playing male roles in the show): - a black thin strapped camisole/shirt and a bra that is black or skin colored. No sports bras, racerback bras or bralettes. - black spandex shorts that will be worn under their costume - one pair of plain black calf-height socks

JOJO: - a white thin strapped camisole/shirt and a bra that is white or skin colored. No sports bras, racerback bras or bralettes. - white or nude colored spandex shorts that will be worn under their costume - Plain white calf-height socks

GERTRUDE, SOUR KANGAROO, and THINGS: - a white thin strapped camisole/shirt and a bra that is white or skin colored. No sports bras, racerback bras or bralettes. - dark colored spandex shorts that will be worn under their costume - one or two pairs of nude tights (tights not hose please – hose rip too easily)

BIRD GIRLS (includes MAYZIE): - a black thin strapped camisole/shirt and a bra that is black or skin colored. No sports bras, racerback bras or bralettes. - black spandex shorts that will be worn under their costume - appropriate thickness of socks for under your boots
