Dear Lovettsville Families,
Our last full month of school promises to be a very busy one at Lovettsville Elementary. It’s hard to believe how quickly the school year has gone and how little time we have left for learning and our end of the year celebrations.
During our first full week of May we are celebrating Staff Appreciation Week. Thank you for helping us honor all the amazing things our staff does for our students. The Chalk Walk welcome was a great way to start the week along with the festive decorations in the lounge. Thank you to everyone for making it look so special and filling it with the yummy smell of nachos!
This month, our students in grades 3 through 5 will be focused on the successful completion of various Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments. Please make every effort to ensure that your children arrive to school well rested and on time on their testing day. Also, please consult with your child’s teacher about any questions related to the SOL test schedule.
We have some fun activities to look forward to this month including our Buy One Get One Book Fair next week, Family Reading Night, our First Grade Musical, and our Bike Rodeo. Please look out for information about these upcoming events.
As the school year draws to a close, and schedules get busy with after school activities, I look forward to your continued support to make the fourth quarter productive for our students. While our staff remains sensitive to the many commitments that students take advantage of during this time of year, please make sure that your child is completing assignments and finishing the year strong with awesome attendance.
As always, thank you for all that you do in partnership with the staff at Lovettsville Elementary to provide a meaningful educational experience for your children.
Respectfully,
Linda Textoris

MSAAC delegates at Lovettsville Elementary
Daisy Arroyo-Mercado and Leslie Mena are very excited to serve as our MSAAC delegates. The goal is to continue building a school community that has a strong sense of belonging as well as having barriers eliminated. ALL children, each and every child, regardless of race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc, has the right to be seen, affirmed and respected. In essence, ALL children should feel safe, nurtured and protected.
Please feel free to contact them at msaac@lovpto.org should you have any questions or concerns. It is important to note that they will bring matters to the attention of the administration or other appropriate party, if necessary.
April brought some beautiful warm days, spring rain and lots of fun music activities. Kindergarten students learned about some famous Jazz musicians like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong and even tried some Jazz scat singing! They also learned and performed a special song at our Arbor Day ceremony. First and second grade students are learning music for their upcoming musicals! Third grade students performed our first, grade level musical in two years. They did a fantastic job! Third grades students also learned about Ragtime and three types of Jazz music: New Orleans Jazz, Big Band/Swing and Bebop. Each class did a Jazz Madness competition and selected their favorite Jazz artist. 4th and 5th grade students have been learning to play the recorder and are doing a great job.
I am looking forward to our spring performances! It is a pleasure to teach your children! If you have questions regarding music classes, please e-mail me at sarah.stillman@lcps.org.
Students will be learning about rolling and aiming (bowling), striking (whiffle ball), and the rules of kickball.
