About Me

Steve Hummer is starting his Fourteenth year at Heritage High School. His story begins in a little town not too far from here, Middleburg. It was here that he was born and raised. And yes, the rumors are true, he did graduate from one of the other high schools located in Leesburg, but that was back in olden times when there were fewer options available. From there he went to James Madison University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Following college he spent the next few years working at a variety of vocations. During that time he worked as a Park Ranger at a small, county operated gold mining museum, in the facilities department at an equine hospital and on production crews for ABC Sports and NBC Sports at such events as the Preakness, the President’s Cup and Monday Night Football. After several years of bouncing around, he decided it was time to get a real job and make something of myself. He enrolled at George Mason University’s Graduate School of Education where he completed the coursework to get his license and his Master’s degree in Education.

And that brings us to now. He’ll be teaching U. S. Government, Global Social Issues, World of Ideas, and Psychology this year. He is also the Faculty Sponsor for the HHS Chapter of the National Social Studies Honor Society. He is also a Certified Instructor for Conscious Discipline, working to bring the SEL program to the Secondary Level. Feel free to stop by and say “Hi!” He'll be in room L510. Parents, he would love to hear from you! If you are wondering how your student is doing or just want to say hello, send him an email at the address listed. And don't forget to sign up for access to the PHOENIX PARENT VUE so you can follow your students progress throughout the year.
