COURSE TITLE: Family and Consumer Sciences, Grade 7
PREREQUISITE: None
DESCRIPTION: Family and Consumer Sciences 7 is an 18 week exploratory program which emphasizes personal responsibility for the demands of multiple life roles through hands-on, project-based instruction. Students focus on individual development, maintain their personal environments, apply nutrition and wellness practices, manage consumer and family resources, create textile, fashion, and apparel products, and explore careers related to Family and Consumer Sciences such as child care. Instruction in Work and Family Studies incorporates and reinforces Virginia Standards of Learning.

DESCRIPTION: Family and Consumer Sciences 8 is a 36 week exploratory program where students continue to build on knowledge and skills acquired in Family and Consumer Sciences 7 to lead better lives, be career-ready, build strong families, and make meaningful contributions to their communities. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
