Head Coach Jocelyn Sowa welcomes back our Broad Run Spartans with a lot of excitement, passion, and energy. Team spirit, good sportsmanship, and a positive attitude are essential elements to a successful season. She hopes that each Spartan can swim with these standards in mind.
Her coaching career began in the early 2000’s, when she led Yorklyn Yellow Jackets in Delaware. A few years later, she joined the Life Time Athletic team and served as a Swimming Instructor, Master Coach, Head Coach of the Summer Swim Team, USAS Head Site Coach, and the Regional Head Coach of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Coach Jocelyn began competitive swimming when she joined a Maryland Summer swim team at five years old. After joining a Winter swim league, she began competing year-round at age six. She continued year-round competitive swimming in Maryland, Ohio, and Delaware until she was sidelined by a shoulder injury during her high school years. The injury didn’t stop Jocelyn from competing; she continued her involvement in summer competition until she aged out at age 18.
Coach Jocelyn holds a Bachelors and Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Delaware and Towson University. She is currently in the process of getting her teaching certificate for Art and Physical Education. You can find Coach Jocelyn walking the halls at Broad Run where she works as a Paraprofessional. She recently acquired her teaching licenses in both Art [K-12] and Health & Physical Education [K-12].
