We have had several questions about scheduling directed to the Student Services Office regarding “how do I know what day my student will attend the Academies of Loudoun when they begin on December 1?” Please follow the directions below:
Open your Student/ParentVue account and select the “Student Information” tab on the left side bar. After clicking on the tab, scroll down the page about half-way to the following box:
In this box, you will see the choices made among the Return-to-School options and the In-person learning days (concurrent school) box on the right. This is the day that your student will attend in-person at ACL (T=Tues, W=Wed, R=Thurs, F=Fri)
If your student has selected DL as their Academies of Loudoun Return-to-School option, then the In-person learning days (concurrent school) box will house the day of synchronous learning.
We hope that this information will help make your student’s Return-to-School a smooth transition. We are looking forward to having them back!

On November 10th, the LCPS School Board is expected to consider taking action on the LCPS Return to School timeline for “Stage 3”. Between November 11-20, parents/guardians will receive information regarding the Semester 2 “Stage 4” model for secondary students and will have an opportunity to make a selection for hybrid or distance learning for Semester 2 (survey window Nov 11-20).
Similar to the selection for the 1st semester, all Academies families will be able to make two selections for 2nd semester – one for the Academies preference and one for the home high school preference.
To assist Academies families with making their decision, we have some Academies specific information to share that we hope will be helpful to you all as you consider the options and make decisions. We have scheduled a virtual Parent Meeting on November 11th, 5:00pm-6:00pm, to go over the information that is specific to the Academies of Loudoun. Note: some of the information shared by home high schools at their town hall meetings will not apply to the
Academies.

While the start of the year has been successful so far, LCPS is experiencing a few technical issue with the Qualtrics health survey. If you are scheduled to be onsite at the Academies, you MUST complete this survey in the morning before entering the building. (If you are not going to be onsite, you do not have to complete the survey). While we continue to work out the kinks in the process, please see below.
Here is the link for the survey. The application will only let you submit one survey per day. Again, if you are going to be onsite, you MUST complete this survey every morning before entering the building.

You are receiving this email because you are enrolled in MATA Health Informatics this school year. In the past week information has gone out to families that explains that we are opening our Academies of Loudoun MATA classes in the HYBRID model as of September 8th. Transportation “opt-in” information has also been sent to families.
Due to extenuating circumstances, we are only able to offer our MATA Health Informatics classes through Distance Learning. Because students enrolled in MATA Health Informatics are only in that class while they are here, you will not need to come to the school building fall semester.
Effective today, MATA Health Informatics is now only offered through Distance Learning. You may disregard the transportation emails that you receive.
Here is the Distance Learning Schedule:
The table below summarizes what an Academies student schedule will look like in Distance Learning (2 days synchronous instruction at each school).
A-day Academies students will dedicate Tuesday and Wednesday to their Academies advisory and course
B-day Academies students will dedicate Thursday and Friday to their Academies advisory and course
8/28
Cybersecurity, Environmental Plant Science, and Biotechnology will be 100% distance learning starting September 8th. We have organized a plan for class textbook/material pick up for students in these classes. Students will need to arrive at the Academies of Loudoun during the appropriate scheduled time.
Please follow these guidelines:
Traffic will flow down the driveway and into the parking lot loop in front of the building. Look for signs and cones to direct you to door A3, located near the main entrance of the building. Staff will greet you and deliver materials to your car.
Please have MATA CLASS NAME, and STUDENT’S NAME (First & Last) clearly displayed on paper for the staff to see as you pull into the parking lot.
First Stop: DOOR A3 - Name Verification and material pick up.
Pick up time and date- Tuesday, September 1st at 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
If you are unable to pick up your materials during the scheduled time please make an appointment with our Technology Team.
Appointment link- https://bit.ly/ACL-DIGX
Our staff will be following and ensuring social distancing guidelines are continually being observed.
School staff will be wearing masks.
Please remain in your car at all times.
Updated: 8/28
If you would like to drive to campus on your day of attendance, please apply for a Parking Permit ASAP! We have spaces available!
Student parking fees at the Academies of Loudoun are suspended pending the schoolwide return of all divisions (AOS & AET) to Hybrid learning. However, students are still required to display a permit when parking on school property. Information of student parking at the Academies of Loudoun has been posted on the school’s webpage under “Helpful Links and Information” (bottom center of the main page). Students desiring bus transportation to the Academies for the 2020-2021 school year must submit a request to request (opt in) for school bus transportation through ParentVUE. Parents or guardians can submit the request from Friday, August 21, 2020 through Friday, August 28, 2020 for transportation for each of their MATA students.
IF AN ACCEPTED STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE A REQUEST SUBMITTED THROUGH PARENTVUE OPTING IN FOR TRANSPORTATION THEY WILL BE CONSIDERED TO HAVE DECLINED TRANSPORTATION FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR.
To make this request, parents must use the Student Information menu item in ParentVUE. After selecting “Edit Information,” parents must read the important information and then using the drop- down box to select either “I Request LCPS Transportation to Academies” (opting in) or “I Decline LCPS Transportation to Academies”. If you have more than one student for whom you are requesting bus transportation, you will have to make a separate ParentVUE request for each student.
Households will receive personalized information for their students attending the Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA) at the Academies of Loudoun (ACL) by Connect Ed message not later than Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Tuesday night the school board directed LCPS to begin our MATA classes at the Academies of Loudoun with in-person, hybrid instruction on September 8. Our school administration has been busy planning for this scenario for weeks, and would like to emphasize that all instruction will occur in groups small enough to achieve compliance with all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH) recommended mitigation measures. Information about LCPS’ mitigation plans is available on the LCPS Return to School website, which now will be applied specifically to the requirements and facilities at the Academies of Loudoun.
More information will be provided directly to students and families in the coming days as school leadership works to finalize plans for students’ and staff members’ return to campus.
Our principal, Dr. Priddy, will send out a virtual orientation to families early next week.
Thank you for all of your support.

The Loudoun County School Board endorsed the LCPS recommendation to begin the new school year on September 8 in the 100% distance learning model of instruction with very limited exceptions.
At this time, our MATA courses at the Academies of Loudoun are being considered as one of the very limited groups to begin in hybrid learning on September 8th. We anticipate a decision soon. I will send out more information to families as soon as I hear final decision from LCPS leadership.
Thank you for your patience as we await a decision from LCPS.

The LCPS School Return Plan for Families document has been refined to provide clarity on drafted sample secondary schedules and will be emailed to all LCPS families tonight. These are drafts, as times might vary based upon transportation and other factors. That document does not contain the draft schedules for the Academies.
Please see the attachment for the refined Academies options with new detail added. If you have any questions, please email Academies Administration.
Updated 7/9/2020
The instructions for selecting your fall Academies option are the same as for your home school selection. When you log into ParentVue you will now see the Academies option right below the Home HS section (see picture attached to this email).
As a reminder:
MATA classes are only available in the Hybrid Option.
AET and AOS classes are available in both options, however we do recommend the hybrid option because it allows us to incorporate the hands-on, inquiry-based instruction that is a foundation to the teaching and learning of our programs, and also better supports our research classes.
All Academies students have the option of choosing the same model for the Academies and their home high school, OR different models.
If Academies families have already made their selection for their home school, they need to log back in to ParentVue to select their Academies option and/or make changes to their home school option.
Please do not reply to the sender of this email. For any additional issues or questions, please contact Academies administration.

Please read the attached document very carefully for fall options at the Academies of Loudoun.

Updated 7/2/2020
On Monday, June 29, the Loudoun County School Board passed a resolution endorsing proposed return-to-school plans for the 2020-2021 school year.
Under the resolution, families will be able to choose from two options for how their children will receive instruction in the new school year. These options are:
A hybrid model of learning for students, which means a child will attend school in person for 2 days each week and will engage in distance learning the other 3 days of the week.
100% distance learning, in which a child will not attend school in person.
We acknowledge the diverse opinions regarding how schools should operate in the new school year and believe that these two options are the best possible options we can provide for Loudoun County families while generally adhering to the guidance from local, state, and national public health experts.
On Monday, July 6, parents and guardians will receive additional information about these options and instructions about how to inform LCPS about their choice of instruction for each of their children for the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. Families will be required to inform LCPS of their choice for each student by 8 a.m. Monday, July 13.
The School Board also revised the 2020-2021 school calendar to make September 8, 2020, the first day of school for students in the new year.
To help families learn more about their choices, LCPS will host a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, July 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
During the town hall, Superintendent Dr. Eric Williams and assistant superintendents Dr. Ashley Ellis, Department of Instruction; Dr. Asia Jones, Department of Pupil Services; and Mr. Kevin Lewis, Department of Support Services, will respond to questions regarding the LCPS Return to School Plan.
The event will be conducted using the Webex Event platform. It also will be live-streamed on LCPS.org and telecast on Comcast channel 18 and Verizon FIOS channel 43. The event also will be recorded for reviewing independently for parents and guardians who may not be able to watch it live.
Questions will be accepted in advance of the event. Please visit this form to submit a question.
Questions also will be accepted from participants during the meeting through the Cisco Webex Event Question & Answer function.
Due to the number of questions we expect to receive, not all questions will be answered during the session. After the event, responses to the most frequently asked questions will be posted online at the LCPS.org/ReturnToSchool2020 website.
Up to 3,000 participants can register to attend this event live. To attend the meeting online, please register at this link:
https://mylcps.webex.com/mylcps/onstage/g.php?MTID=e781f29245f79c4978940a120605626f1
If you attempt to register and the event is full, please plan to watch it on LCPS.org, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon FIOS channel 43
Questions about individual students or family situations will not be addressed during this event. Participants are encouraged to focus their questions on details about the LCPS Return to School plan. More information about the plan will be provided to all LCPS families on Monday, July 6.
Information regarding separate town hall events for LCPS employees will be sent directly to staff members.

Loudoun County Public Schools has created a Final Grade Calculator to help families understand the grade-calculation process for 2019-2020. This calculator will allow families the ability to enter their student’s first-, second- and third-quarter grades to see how each of the three possible grading scenarios, approved by LCPS during COVID-19 school closure, will impact the final grade a student will receive in June. The highest possible calculated grade will be posted in PVUE/SVUE for families to review prior to teachers applying any grade improvement from work submitted during the fourth quarter. Families can elect to convert a final grade from A+ through D- to P for any secondary course.
a. Families will submit Permission Click forms electronically to school staff to request the change.
School year 2019-2020 seniors and juniors who elect to convert to a P will be EXCLUDED from rank during their senior year. Their final transcripts will not reflect class rank.
Current 6th through 10th graders still have a majority of their HS careers left, with rigorous courses and AP/DE classes with greater weight on GPA to come. They have not yet been ranked, and have many opportunities ahead of them to impact their GPAs (and rank). The P will not exclude them for rank during their senior year.
Taking a “P” for a B- now may seem like a good idea, but if the student averages Cs for the remainder of their HS courses, it would not be beneficial to convert to P. Similarly, it would be beneficial to convert to a “P” if the student averages As and Bs as they progress through more difficult courses.
Families should consider the option to convert a final grade from A+ through D- to P carefully as it impacts GPA, rank, NCAA eligibility, Thomas Jefferson High School admissions and college entrance evaluations.
LCPS asks that families contact an admissions officer at their child’s respective post high school institution for more information.

The Permission Click form for recording synchronous learning is now available (teachers will be recording whole class synchronous instruction). This recording may be used to share with students unable to access the original session. If a parent or guardian does not want their student’s image recorded, the camera should be turned off.
The form must be filled out and submitted for each school that your child attends. That means that all Academies students need to do one for their home high school and one for the Academies of Loudoun.
Here is the form:

All Academies teachers are already communicating with their students through their Google classrooms and via email. Our Academies Counselors are also available to assist you in any way, so please do not hesitate to reach out.
Asynchronous Distance Learning (not live)
Asynchronous Learning may occur anytime between 9:15 and 3:15 daily

Although most instruction will continue to be asynchronous, synchronous learning will be used to supplement our distance learning plans
Teachers will provide synchronous instruction (live instruction) during the block in the schedule below; MATA teachers must adhere to the A or B day that their class section falls on
April 15 is an A day
Teachers will be recording whole-class synchronous learning sessions (a Permission Click form will be provided to families to provide consent to record their student)
If a school does not receive permission from a parent/guardian, the student may still participate with the camera off or a student can access the recording of that session
Unless otherwise needed, we recommend students turn their cameras off during synchronous sessions
Adults must be present for synchronous one-to-one sessions with students (parent and teacher, or two teachers if parent isn’t available)
The above schedule applies to Synchronous Learning only.
*** Students will access the morning announcements from the Academies Connection Center website, lcps.org/academiesconnectioncenter
Students can watch the morning announcement video, get updated information, visit the virtual library and more. There is also a special section for seniors called “Postcards to Our Seniors” with messages to seniors from our teachers.
