LCMS Custodian wins RISE Award!
Houchens is one of the two Virginia finalists nominated for the first-ever national RISE award. The award goes to inspirational classified employees. Nominees are selected by Virginia first lady Pamela Northam, Secretary of Education Atif Qarni and Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane.
"Inspirational, that's Sharon's middle name," said Doug Straley, the superintendent of Louisa County Public Schools.
An un-bee-lievable lesson
A beekeeping program at Louisa County High School is getting students out of the classroom, suiting them up, and taking them into the beehive.

Louisa County Public Schools set up a free lunch for law enforcement officers on Wednesday as part of an annual kindness campaign.
"We've set up food trucks for all of our first responders as a way of saying thank you," LCPS Superintendent Doug Straley said.
LCMS students thank First Responders
Students from Louisa County Middle School stopped by the Louisa County Fire and EMS stations Friday as part of a month-long initiative to spread kindness and build positive relations within the community.
Students read poems to the first responders and then presented them with postcards from the students and baskets of goodies before then being taken on a tour of the fire station.
First Lady Northam visits LCPS
Northam spoke to students and staff members, while also expressing gratitude to Louisa for starting its school year.
"We really miss the kids in the classroom, so I've been so looking forward to seeing the children again and really gives me great hope to see how creative the teachers are being in making sure the children are staying socially distanced, they are staying safe with their masks and they are still able to learn and have fun with their friends," she said.

Students not returning to school can access solar-powered units called “W.O.W.,” units that provide free internet.

The #Kindness Closet provides clothes, shoes, toiletries, and even books to anyone who needs them.
Anyone can visit the #Kindness Closet, which is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

#TeamLCPS Hosts Virtual Spirit Week!
"Officials at Louisa County Public Schools are not letting the recent school closures bring their spirits down. Instead, they're finding new ways to interact online through a virtual spirit week.
Starting Monday, LCPS is challenging students, parents and teachers to post photos using the phrase, #LouisaLeads. Each day has a different theme, including Pajama Day, Jersey Day, and Green and Gold Day." -- CBS19
