Meet the LCPS Art Teachers

Rosa Lee Fry

Trevilians Elementary School

I have been teaching at Trevilians Elementary School for five years (Go Eagles!). Before coming back to Louisa, I graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specializing in Studio Art. When I am not teaching, I am a working artist and illustrator. I enjoy printmaking, pen & ink drawing and watercolor. In my spare time I enjoy playing volleyball and tennis, practicing yoga, hiking and spending time with family and friends.

In my classroom, students can feel free to express themselves, experiment with art techniques and make a mess! I love helping students learn about different art processes, without having to stress to much about the end product (although, it always turns out beautiful anyway). I strive to create an environment where all students feel welcome, have fun and feel comfortable being themselves.

Erin Ward

Moss-Nuckols Elementary School

I am so excited to be teaching art for my fourth year at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School. Prior to joining the MNES team, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education, specializing in ceramics.

In my classroom, students cultivate visual arts skills and techniques, and acquire an understanding and appreciation of art history. My teaching philosophy is centered on fostering divergent thinking and celebrating the diversity among individual students. My goal is to create a classroom atmosphere that is open, inviting, and safe. This environment allows students to feel comfortable to learn, grow and express themselves freely.

Rodrick Rhodes

Hi, I'm Rodrick Rhodes. I have been teaching at Thomas Jefferson Elementary for 22 years through an Earthquake, A Relocation and a Pandemic. I have earned a BFA, Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from James Madison University and a MIS, Master of Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. I am sometimes known as the KING OF COLOR because of the very bright colors I use in my artwork and I wear in my clothes. I am inspired by cartoons, mosaics, posters and stained glass windows. I once published a book called of my artwork, 180 Days of Art: A Visual Journey of An Elementary Art Teacher, producing 180 drawings, one representing each day of the school year and what happened in my life at that time. I am also active in the Louisa Art Center, serving on the gallery committee.

Rebecca Massie

Louisa County High School

I’m Becky Massie, a proud LCHS graduate. My husband and I live on a farm in Louisa County where we raised our three sons. Our family now includes two daughters(in-law) and two grandchildren. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Longwood College and my Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. It has been my pleasure to work with students at LCHS for over 40 years. My goal is to encourage each student to think in ways they have not thought before and to continue developing his or her own art style. I enjoy printmaking, drawing, and painting. My artwork often depicts everyday objects or life on the farm. Recently I’ve been working on pallet knife paintings of flowers. When I’m not at school, I love making things with Play-Doh with the grandchildren and cooking for anyone. During the summers, I help my husband and son on the farm.

Betsy McGinnis is an Orange county, VA native and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington. Painting is Betsy's favorite form of art making, focusing on oils and watercolors, but drawing in pastels is a close second. She also loves working with clay, making both functional, wheel thrown works as well as sculptural pieces. Betsy is a wife and mother to three daughters, and loves spending time with family and her two Shetland shepherds, Cecil and Maeve.
