What is the PSAT?

The PSAT is the practice SAT test. It is given at LCHS once per year, usually in October. Students receive their test booklet and scores back to use as a resource for preparing for the SAT. Students can take this multiple years, through the fall of their junior year.

What is the SAT/ACT?

The SAT and ACT are both standardized tests that are used by college admissions offices as a part of the college application. Though not every college/university requires these test scores, most do. The SAT includes Math, Verbal, and Optional Writing sections while the ACT contains Math, Verbal, Optional Writing, and Science sections.

Who should take the SAT/ACT?

It is recommended that all students who are considering attending a 4 year college take both the SAT and ACT test. Having these scores can also prove beneficial for students planning to attend 2 year schools.

Which test should I take?

Most colleges will accept either test, but taking both allows the student to try two different tests which can showcase his/her skills as best as possible.

When should I take the SAT/ACT?

It is recommended that students take the SAT/ACT during their junior year of high school, allowing time for an additional test administration in the fall of his/her senior year if needed. Students can take the test earlier than junior year if desired, but most students perform best on the math section in particular if they have at least taken Algebra II.

How many times should I take the SAT/ACT?

Typically it is recommended that you take at least one of the two tests twice to try and improve your score. Many students will take a combination of 3-4 SAT/ACT tests, but the number of attempts is not limited.
