Ahoy! Welcome to our webpage for English 470 19th-Century American Literature at Lewis-Clark State College. This year, our class will be holding our semi-annual Moby-Dick Marathon, virtually! With the help of classmates, friends, family, and members of our community, we have successfully recorded each chapter of Moby-Dick for you to listen and follow along with at your leisure.
In years past, LCSC has held a Moby-Dick half-marathon on campus. Due to Covid-19 and social distancing protocols in place, it is safer for everyone participating to hold this event virtually. This will allow for you to come back this page as often as you like to listen to Moby-Dick. Versions of Moby-Dick reading marathons are held annually across the country as a way to interact with this historic novel.
In the header above, you will find links to specific individual chapters. This allows you to pinpoint specific parts of the novel for your listening and reading pleasure! If you would like to listen to each chapter consecutively, there is a link to the playlist at the bottom of this page! There, you will be able to listen to the entirety of the novel from beginning to end with no interruptions.
We would like to thank our 80 readers, without whom, this project would not have happened. Our readers are a conglomeration of LCSC students, graduates, professors, staff, and community members, and with their contribution, we have a total of 138 recordings. This project is a testament to the power and importance of literature and community.
Please enjoy listening to local voices from the Lewis-Clark Valley and surrounding areas read Moby-Dick!
