Lan Zhou Junior High School was founded on August 1st, 1969. The first principal, Chen Jiao-Ping, planned the establishment of the school. He borrowed the office from the Taipei Tobacco Factory as well as the Daqiao Elementary School Auditorium on August 20th to hold the first freshmen orientation. At the same time, Lan Zhou Junior High School moved into the former Shilin High School of Commerce in Taipei City. The school has developed rapidly and the number of students has doubled since then. In 1979, the science and teaching building were built and 38 classrooms were well set up. After swimming pools were finished in 1986, the school was almost completed. It had become a prosperous campus, which was quite affirmed by all walks of life.

The campus covers an area of 24,836 square meters. It is close to the Confucian Temple, Baoan Temple, Yuanshan MRT Station and the Art Museum. Since the 1997 academic year, the Education Bureau has approved the establishment of school-based English gifted courses and sports gifted classes, and has successively improved and advanced school's facilities and equipment, such as the blue sky gym and the library.

To keep up with the time, the principal has been striving for various advanced projects, such as teaching tutors, cooperative learning and newspaper reading education. It is worth mentioning that in 2019, the High Light Plan has passed and the school got invested NT$5 million in two years to build a campus network, which has not only enriched the latest technology equipment but also improved teaching efficiency. At the same time, the school also developed school-based courses for example, reading for pleasure and reading for experiecing to cultivate students’ international perspectives.

From 2016 to 2019, the school had won the Excellent Mentors of the Ministry of Education for three consecutive years. In recent years, it is praised for the exemplary teachers of school, excellent in service learning, outstanding school performance and good community recognition. In 2015 and 2019 the school was approved by the Education Bureau as a fully reserved school.
