Area 1 Highlights

Area Fall Leadership Workshop 22-23

On October 26, 2022, Area 1 FBLA chapters joined together at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX for our Fall Leadership Workshop. We had approximately 150 members attend the event, with four separate workshops for them to enjoy and learn from. They got to hear from board member Christina Perez about competitions in the spring. They were taught how to dress professionally and interact with our social media accounts by different local and area officers. Finally, everyone had a chance to get to know one another through our icebreakers. We were sure to get members involved in our Area BAND as well. Aside from the workshops, attendees listened to our keynote speaker Michael Postar, owner of Affordable Storage, to learn more about business. Overall, the workshop was a success!

National Leadership Conference

On June 28, 2022, chapters from Area 1 set out for the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois. These chapters included Ropes ISD, Rosevelt ISD, and Lubbock-Cooper ISD. Over the course of six days, each chapter had a variety of members compete for their chance to secure a spot in the top ten. Cerri Perez, Rebecca Kimani, and Grayson Harjo represented Lubbock- Copper with fifth place in Public Service Announcement. While Ropes had two driven members place; Dalek Wyatt eighth place for 3D Animation, and Camden Clabaugh tenth place for Introduction to Public Speaking. Aside from competitions, each group had an amazing time exploring the bustling city life of Chicago. Tourist attractions, including The Bean and the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower), were visited by many chapters. As much as we loved the heart of deep-dish pizza and the Cubs, we're excited to prepare for the upcoming National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia!

Fall Festival

On October 28th, Lubbock-Cooper FBLA sold rice krispy balls at the South Elementary Fall Festival. Members, officers, and advisors helped spread the spooky joy of Halloween throughout the night. Our good friend, Raider Red, even stopped by to say hi! As the night continued, volunteers were able to sell out faster than expected. The South Elementary Fall Festival was undoubtedly a huge success for our chapter. We ended the night with laughs, smiles, and fun glasses and hats to show off our Halloween spirit!

Area Fall Leadership Workshop

October 27, 2021

On October 27th, Lubbock-Copper’s FBLA chapter left for Ropes High School to join other Area 1 chapters for our Fall Leadership Conference. Members and advisors were given beneficial ideas to help strengthen their knowledge on competitions, real life events, and dress code. A guest speaker gave a virtual speech to inform the audience on the current outlook of business related jobs. Our wonderful Area 1 officers created fun games for members to play and even spoke about what FBLA means to them. The Area Fall Leadership Workshop helped prepare members, inform advisors, and create a safe space for everyone to ask questions and become acquaintances.

LCP Freshmen Fish Camp

On August 3rd, Lubbock-Cooper High School’s Chapter Officers worked together to set up a display booth to represent FBLA at freshman orientation. At this booth, a board with information about Future Business Leaders of America was created and we included some prizes for interested students. We were able to talk to incoming high school students about joining our organization and all the benefits that come with being a member. Our efforts to recruit students were a success and many scanned a QR code to kickstart their membership.

Leadership Training

During the summer, July 14th and 15th, the Lubbock-Cooper High School chapter held a leadership training event open to all of area one. Led by Cooper High School's Adviser, Christina Perez, many students in local chapter and area officer positions from Cooper, Ropes, and Roosevelt were able to share and collaborate on ideas for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Time was also spent reflecting on the important history and ideals of FBLA and our purpose for preparing the Leaders of Tomorrow.
