The photo shown to the left is the first assignment I handed in for my Media Arts class. This photo was taken in July, around 5 or 6 pm, perfect for a golden hour glow! I was skating by the cemetery with a friend and stopped to take a quick picture.
This design was created on Photoshop with the idea of "emphasis" in mind. Here, I copied three rows of three hearts, colored the outer hearts red, and left the heart in the middle as the "odd man out," colored it black, and flipped it upside-down for emphasis.
This design was created with the idea of "emphasis" in mind as well. Here, I lined up seven black lines in a row, evenly, and made the fifth line crooked. Its angled position makes it stand out and catch the eye of the viewer.
This design was created with the idea of "balance" in mind. Here, I was thinking of a symmetrical design that brought your focus to the center, but moved outwards to the corners of the page. The red brings emphasis, and the two lines outstretching to the four corners balance the image. This image was created in Photoshop.
This design was also created with the idea of "balance" in mind. In this image, created in Photoshop, I was hoping to do an asymmetrical design in contrast to the former design.
My first "Rule of Thirds" image was taken on my iPhone. This picture was taken in my yard. I laid on my stomach and lined up the mushroom to where I wanted it, and to my surprise, I found that the other mushrooms lined up behind it! When I edited the photo, I used the section lines in the crop tool to make sure that the image worked with the laws of the "Rule of Thirds."
My second Rule of Thirds image was taken with my iPhone camera. I found an empty spot on my shelf and arranged two candle and two bottles behind the skull. I felt that the yellow in the back added a pop of color in contrast to the items. When I edited the photo, I used the section lines in the crop tool to make sure that the image worked with the laws of the "Rule of Thirds."
For this assignment, I was instructed to morph two animals into one hybrid animal using Photoshop. I chose the head of an anteater and the body of an ostrich. I used a few different tools in order to create this new creature: the clone stamp tool, mask techniques, layers, and the brush tool.
This assignment was to take five photos that showed the theme "Autumn" and also displayed the Rule of Thirds. Here are some of the photos I came up with over the course of a few days!
There are some decorative pumpkins I shot in a cluster.
This was taken in the evening when I was taking Homecoming photos. I couldn't resist getting a snapshot!
Here is a dried pod of milkweed from my mother's garden.
These are flowers from my mother's garden. Notice the contrast of the red against the white!
This assignment was to create an image that demonstrates the idea of Contrast. We were not supposed to design something as simple as different colors like in the emphasis assignment, but to show two contrasting ideas. For this image, I chose night and day, and found clipart of suns and moons.
This photo assignment was to take five photos displaying the concepts of Balance and Symmetry. For this assignment, I drove a small park in a development close to my house and took some photos on my iPhone. I was shooting in 35° F, windy weather, but I think it was worth it!
This is a photo of the monkey bars at the park. I played around with different angles and positions to show the symmetry.
This was a tic tac toe board on the playground. I swiveled the Xs and Os so that they lined up.
This is a close up of a flower in my sunroom. My phone camera wouldn't focus for my original shot, so I took a shot further away and zoomed in.
This cross was at the top of a small wooden structure in the park, left from a protest over the land of the Sacred Heart church years ago. I zoomed in and edited the photo for show the texture of the weathered wood.
The goal of this assignment was to establish hierarchy. We were told to choose a quote of some kind and to use different typefaces to make it look great. Using typography for the quote helped to show hierarchy and separate certain words from the whole quote and make them stand out.
This design was the first design that I came up with for the quote. The design was good, but it needed a bit of adjusting, as seen in the next photo.
This design is the official design that I used for the second part of the project. The initial version was edited to this at the advisement of my teacher.
The second part of the project was to color my design. To find colorways, I went onto adobe.color.com to play around with a color wheel. I needed four different color ways: analogous, triad, monochromatic, and complimentary colors. After I found these colors, I took a screenshot of each set of colors and added it to the bottom on my design on Photoshop. Next, I used the eyedropper tool to add the colors into the grid of colors and messed around with saturation and intensity of the colors. In the end, I had four official, colored, typography designs!
Analogous
Complimentary
Monochromatic
Triad
For this assignment, I was tasked with taking ten candid/street photography photos. This time I needed to use a DSLR camera. I had to learn the right shutter speed, aperture, and ISO settings to take good photos. Here's what I came up with!
Once a month, the Media Arts classes are asked to create a social media post for the school's broadcasting team's Instagram page. These posts can be in the form of videos, photos, flyers made on design websites, etc. The point of the assignment is to spread "news" to the school, whether it be promoting a club, sharing activities, current events, or just holiday well wishes! Below are the posts I have created so far.
Mr. Sayeg, teacher for the Yearbook class. Photo taken on a DSLR camera.
Yearbook students gather for a picture (in costume during Spirit Week). Photo taken on a DSLR camera.
All four slides were made on Adobe Express!
This flyer for the Writers Anonymous club was made on Canva!
January 20th was National Cheese Lovers Day! This design was made on Canva, and included a fact about the largest piece of cheese in its official caption.
Presidents Day!
Earth Day!
This assignment was to create a design on either Canva or Adobe Express that shows the design element of Repetition. For this one, I chose to use Adobe Express and found a repeating autumnal background to use for the repetition aspect. This is what I came up with!
This goal of this assignment was to create a poster of "holidays well wishes" for the student body, but using the design element of "white space." There are the two designs I came up with! Both designs were made with Adobe Express!
My first White Space Design:
My second White Space design:
For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a poster to advertise for this year's spring musical. The spring musical is "Anastasia." I made this design in Adobe Express. Some design elements I kept in mind were White Space, Contrast, Hierarchy, Typography and Emphasis.
For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a "Pop Art" piece in Photoshop. I took a stock photo of a hot dog with a strong resolution, uploaded it into Photoshop, and started coloring it. I used different sets of complementary colors from the color wheel, and colored the image using the layer tool and the object selection tool to color the dark and light parts of the image. After I had six separate layers colored differently, I arranged them in two rows. This is the final result:
The purpose of this assignment was to take two photos, one demonstrating "hard" lighting, and the other demonstrating "soft" lighting.
These were taken on my iPhone in the classroom. We were able to mess with the lights that were provided in the room to get our perfect shot.
For this assignment, we had to take three portrait photos using a DSLR camera. Unfortunately, I was not familiar enough with my camera and could not get rid of the flash when shooting, but overall I think they turned out pretty good!
For this assignment, my two classmates and I were tasked with creating a short film centered around an emotion. We chose ambition! Our film is about using ambition to create something, such as a short film. We used Premiere Pro to edit it, and a camcorder to film it. Here is ours below!
After learning the basics on Premiere Pro for our Emotion short film, we next had to create a digital poem on Premiere. Our poem was based on a real poem called "I Am From" and for our assignment, we created our own version of this poem by filling in the blanks. After we recorded a voiceover of us saying the poem, we found appropriate photos and videos to go along with the poem. Here is mine below!
This assignment was for us to create our first voiceover for the Morning Show at my school. We had to investigate a topic at the school and "get the scoop" along with B-Roll clips. The film was shot on a DSLR camera. My script was written separately, but here is the film portion:
This assignment was to find another story to possibly be featured in the morning show. For this project, I chose to feature a senior to talk about the high school experience. The goal was to create a script (separate from this video) with a voice over, with a featured soundbite in the middle, and the voice over concluding the video. Everything was shot on my iPhone camera and a DSLR camera.
While I was out on a personal day, the class went on a photowalk to take some pictures on their DSLR cameras of the beautiful world outside! I took some pictures on my own at my house on my iPhone. Here are 8 out of 10 of them:
For our final assignment, we could choose what we wanted to do/create. For me, I was interested in trying to create a stop motion film. I took over five hundred shots in the course of a seven hour shoot, featuring old baby dolls I had laying around in my house. I used a DSLR camera, edited in premiere, multiple lights, acrylic paint, and nails. It was a lot of work, but I think it really paid off! Check out the final project:
