As a veteran team consisting of 15 students of the French Lycée Charles de Gaulle of Ankara, we participate every year in the Robotics Competition For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology: FIRST (FRC).
The Lycée Français Charles-de-Gaulle is a French educational institution located in Ankara, Turkey. It is under the direct supervision of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and the Embassy of France in Ankara. AEFE is a public institution supervised by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It plays a key role in the cultural and linguistic radiation of France in the world. This network includes more than 500 schools worldwide.

About us
We are a robotics team composed of 15 students from the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, a French school affiliated with the AEFE and located in Ankara. The AEFE is the public operator that coordinates the network of French educational institutions abroad, commonly referred to as "French high schools". This unique school network in the world, comprising 543 schools and present in 139 countries, represents an asset and a lever of the radiance of France. We are the first French school in the world to participate in the FIRST competition. Our goal goes beyond our robotics project: we are conducting several civil responsibility projects in Turkey and abroad and we want to broaden the technological and scientific horizons of children.

FIRST Robotics Competition
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is the largest and most prestigious of the four competitions organized by FIREST every year. High school students from all over the world can join FRC by forming their own teams. FRC's greatest goal is to make high school students love technology and engineering. It achieves this by combining sport and engineering, and by organizing a competition where the teams compete, but also support each other, all to have a good time. In this competition, team members are tasked with raising funds, creating brand value for the team, working collectively, and designing and programming an industrial-sized robot; all in teams of 20 or more people, under strict rules, limited resources, and a six-week period to build the robot. FIRST sponsors include companies such as NASA, Microsoft, IBM, National Instruments, Motorola, Boston Scientific, Chrysler Foundation, General Motors and Johnson & Johnson...

Inspire young people to become leaders in science and technology, engaging them in exciting programs that enhance their skills in science, engineering and technology. These programmes are designed to inspire innovation and foster essential skills, such as self-confidence, communication and leadership.
Learn and gain experience through competition.
Provide services and encourage students from all over the world to do the same through the Agency for French Education Abroad.
Promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) studies, especially among children.
Representing Franco-Turkish cooperation in competitions with our team spirit, our robots and our projects.

On the one hand, our goal is to learn and gain experience through this competition, realizing and fulfilling the mission of FIRST. On the other hand, we are trying to disseminate STEM studies, especially among young children, by providing services to encourage students from all over the world. We believe that our various contributions to competitive challenges, such as our social responsibility projects, help the team gain new insights and awareness from experience. Our goal is to bring diversity to FIRST, as well as to raise awareness among the young students of LCDG and those of the schools of the French Education Network abroad.

As a team, we have come together to work towards a specific goal, to advance science by creating a positive impact on the lives of everyone but also on the life of others, both nationally and internationally.
For us, 06 Angora is more than just a high school robotics team. It is a small factory that offers us an environment in which we not only build robots and plan projects, but also help our community, share our ideas and communicate with experts in their fields. We establish strong links with other FRC teams in Turkey but also with our network of mentors, local around our school and national and global companies. This allows us to find contacts for sponsorship, to share our ideas, to be introduced to new ideas and to spread the spirit and values of FIRST.
We are the first group in our school to participate in this project since Ankara as well as the first in the entire network of the Agency for French Education Abroad (also known as the AEFE). The establishments of this system are highly interconnected and each event (such as the FRC) is made known by everyone in this network. We hope that our initiative will inspire not only the students of our school but also the French-speaking student communities around the world. We are more than happy to share our current knowledge and pass on the FRC spirit to others.

Team History
Our name “Angora06” was chosen by our Founding Captain, Can KOCAK as it refers to the centennial of the Treaty of Angora (also called the Ankara Treaty) signed in 1921 between The Republic of France and The Republic of Turkiye. It was the first treaty in which a member of the Triple Agreement, the winners of the First World War, recognized the newly independent Republic of Turkiye. That is why it plays a key role in Franco-Turkish relations. Thus, for our school, sharing this same ambition, we decided to name our team 06 Angora, the "06" representing the postal code of the city. We chose this name to remind us of the Franco-Turkish heritage and values.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, known as the “Father of the Turks,” is the founder of the modern, secular Republic of Turkiye, asserting the Country's influence on an international level.
His reforms changed the entire country dramatically, yet not all his contributions were seen as positive, especially in the 21st century when current social norms are applied. However he was received, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a powerful figure who changed his country and helped shape the world’s political dynamics that continue to have lasting effects to this day.
