2024-2025 High School Blasts
HS Blast 1
Hello all,
We hope the school year is off to a great start!
Ms. Wright and I (Ms. Goral) are very excited to help you all on your high school application journey. As we head into high school application season, you will be receiving many emails from us to ensure that everyone is kept in the loop. Please have any and all questions & information regarding high school emails sent to this email address (lccshs@lccsnj.org).
We are still in the calm before the storm of the application season. In a few weeks, we will be hitting the ground running with all things HS, so enjoy the break while you can! :)
1) Save the Date: Monday, September 30th @ 6:00pm for information on the application process. This meeting will take place in person at the LCCS Library. Ms. Wright and I will go over the entire HS application process and timeline. Every year, the application process at each school shifts just a little, so we have to wait until each respective school hosts a counselor info session before explaining the HS application process with everyone.
2) LCCS Test Prep Courses begins tomorrow. If you have any questions regarding the LCCS test prep course, please contact Ms. Antczak (tantczak@lccsnj.org).
3) If you are planning on applying to a Catholic School: Sign up for the HSPT is OPEN. The sign up and payment is done completely by you through www.njcoopexam.org. Unfortunately, we are unable to see if you have signed up, etc. You must sign up by October 25th. The cost for the test is $70. The HSPT is on November 8th, 2024.
4) If you are planning to apply to a Catholic School: Complete the 9th Grade Applicant Form and email it back to lccshs@lccsnj.org. Please put STUDENT's FULL NAME AND APPLICANT FORM in the subject line. Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please stop by Ms. Wright’s office. The forms need to either be emailed (lccshs@lccsnj.org) or dropped off to Ms. Wright by November 1st.
5) We do not have confirmation on the PSAT 8/9 date. The PSAT 8/9 usually is the 3rd or 4th week of October. I would suspect that we will find out the date within the next two weeks.
6) Make sure to check out the LCCS website under HS Admissions Program for up to date information, open house dates for nearby HS, application info, etc.
Note: The CPHS open house has limited seats. If interested, register now.
We look forward to seeing all of you in a few weeks at our HS Application Information Meeting on Monday, September 30th at 6:00pm.
If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Best,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

Hello all,
This email is for all students that took the PSAT 8/9. If you did not take the PSAT 8/9, please disregard.
The time has finally come where we know details about the Infinity and McNair application process (yay!). As predicted, they made it a fairly simple online application process. At 12pm this afternoon, they will be putting a banner up on their websites with a link to apply. There will also be a letter explaining the application process.
Here is a direct link to the application (it will open at 12pm today): Student Application Form
https://www.jcboe.org <--- Banner will be live at NOON TODAY!
McNair Academic: https://mhs.jcboe.org
Infinity Academic: https://ii.jcboe.org
Here is what you need to know:
1) Applications open on January 19th, 2024 at 12pm. Applications close on February 14th, 2024 at 11:59pm (late applications will not be accepted). If you have an issues regarding the application, need to make edits after submission, etc., please email mcnairinfinityadmissions@jcboe.org
The application will contain the following:
Basic contact information (student name, guardian info, email (make sure to put a PARENT EMAIL), phone number, current school (LCCS), student ID (see below)
NOTE: For your student ID, it is very important that you do the following: Student First Initial, Student Last Initial, and Birthday (MM/DD/YY). For example: For a student named Gail Uva with a birthday on February 4, 2008, the ID will be: GU020408. If you have questions about your student ID, please contact us and we will provide you with your ID number for the application)
List (up to 5) extracurricular (sports, clubs, or community based) activities (ie Choir, Basketball, Taekwondo, etc.)
You will choose for your application to be sent to McNair, Infinity, or both
If choosing to apply to Infinity, you will need to choose your foreign language and visual/ performing arts choices (if you only choose to apply to McNair, you will disregard this section)
You will confirm that you live in Jersey City and hit submit
Once you submit your application, your part is completed. There is nothing more that needs to be done on your end. You will receive a copy of your application to the email address that you provided in the form.
2) After you submit your application, we will be able to complete our part. (We have until 2/21 at 4pm to complete, but it is our goal to get them done as soon as you submit your portion of the application).
For our portion, we will be completing the following:
Student absences for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (up to 12/31/23)
Student grades for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (Marking Period 1 only)
8th grade teacher recommendations
NOTE: We will be asking your student’s 8th grade ELA, Math, Science, and SS teacher to rank the applicant on a 1-5 scale for their performance and effort. This is preset for the application process and there is nothing that needs to be done on your end to obtain these. Please do not contact the teachers to request for them to complete the recommendation.
3) Letters of acceptance will be mailed on March 15th and emailed on March 18th, 2024. Students' responses to acceptance letters are due on March 28, 2024. (Note: it was mentioned in the meeting the importance of accepting the response. Even if you get a letter of acceptance, a seat is NOT reserved for you until the acceptance letter is received. Additionally, they stressed the importance of being timely on the registration forms. All information on how to formally accept a spot at McNair or Infinity will be in the letter of acceptance.)
Please let us know if you have any questions! Stay warm!

Good afternoon,
We need ALL families to complete this one question form by Sunday, January 21st.
This one question form is to confirm if you will or think you will be applying to any of the JC Small Learning Communities, JC Arts, or the BEST program. It is essential that everyone completes this one question form because the application process is opposite of the other applications in the fact that we have to fill out the transcripts and other data before you get the application. The form lets us know if we should submit your transcripts and test scores to any of the HIP/ JCPS schools.
This means that if you say "No" to applying to the HIP schools, and then decide later in the spring to apply, when you click on the applicant link it will tell you there is an error. If this occurs, we can try to get the transcript link reopened to submit the information, but they told us that it may or may not be opened back up. If that is the case, you will not have the option to apply to any of the HIP programs. We are strongly suggesting that everyone that has not yet confirmed a spot at a HS should apply. It doesn't cost anything to apply. It doesn't affect any of your other applications. If anything, it gives peace of mind.
Upcoming Information:
1) The HIP Fair will be IN PERSON this year. It will take place on Saturday, February 24th from 9:00-2:00pm. This will be an excellent time to talk to teachers, current and former students, etc. More information about this fair will be shared once we receive it.
2) We were told that applications for students will open after the HIP Fair and will be open for 4 weeks. A step by step application guide will be sent along with the application link closer to when the application opens. The application is completed online. It will require 1-2 paragraphs to explain your reasoning for choosing a specific school. More information about the application will be shared once we receive it.
3) There will also be a chance to visit any of the JC public schools in person sometime in March. More information about this will be shared once we receive it.
4) JC public schools will be providing more resources, etc. for each program shortly. We will be sharing once we receive the resources.
We are rounding the bend on applications (whoo hoo)! We will be updating everyone on the McNair/Infinity process after our meeting on Friday. At this time, all you need to do is let us know if you are applying to any of the JC public school programs via the 2024: HIP Application Inquiry form.
Please let us know if you need anything or have any questions.
Best,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

Hey all,
Happy New Year!
BeLoved Charter School, Empowerment Academy, and Hoboken Charter School application close at the end of next week. We strongly recommend students to complete the applications to keep options open when it comes to making your high school decision. Please make sure to look over the HS list and apply to schools prior to the deadline.
As a reminder:
There have been lots of inquiries about when the McNair/Infinity applications will come out. We have not heard anything yet, but we looked back to last year's applications and the McNair/Infinity applications opened on 1/12/23. Based on this, it is our best guess that the application information will come out after winter break. As always, we will be sure to email as soon as we know anything.
The Jersey City Public Schools has a Higher Initiative Program which gives students the opportunity to focus on different careers. More information about what each program/school provides will be out after the new year. Last year, we were told information about each program and open houses in February and applications opened in March.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

Hello all,
As we head into a holiday weekend, we are happy to announce that all of the HCST, private school requests that we received, and Catholic School Transcripts are completed and sent out! We had a lofty goal of getting all of these completed by December 1st, so we are very happy to have checked it off our list by 11/22!
This is one big chapter completed, but don't worry, there is still more! :)
I expect the McNair / Infinity applications to come out within the next week or two. This application is very simple on your end (it will take less than 15 minutes to complete). We will be sure to update you once we hear more.
In February, the JC HIP (Jersey City Higher Initiative Program through the Jersey City Public Schools) will come out. We will go over this once it gets closer (again - it is a short 10-15 minute application).
If you decide to apply to any more private schools and need transcripts sent over, or you have questions regarding any charter school applications, please reach out to let us know.
Thanks for sticking with us during this application season! We hope that you all have a wonderful, restful week. You deserve it!
Best,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

Hello all,
PSAT scores are in! As a reminder, we are unable to access the scores (which is incredibly frustrating), so these steps have to be done in order for you to see your scores.
If you have already set up a College Board Website:
1) Go to College Board Website
2) Log in (if you forgot your password/username, let us know, as we may have it)
3) Complete this form to let us know your score (this information will be kept confidential)
If you have not set up a College Board account:
1) Go to College Board Website
2) Fill out the "General Information"
3) When you get to "Where do you go to school?". use Franklin L Williams (this is where they took the test).
4) They should then see their score soon in their account.
5) Complete this form to let us know your score (this information will be kept confidential)
McNair/ Infinity apps are not out yet. Once they come out, we will be sure to let everyone know.
***Note: It is our goal to get the Catholic school and HCST counselor portions completed by Thanksgiving break (the deadline is not until mid December). We will let everyone know once they are all completed!
Thanks,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

Hello all,
Good luck to everyone taking the HSPT on Friday, November 10th.
Unfortunately, we are not privy to any of the information regarding the HSPT. We are not able to see who signed up, testing tickets. scores, testing location, etc.
All testing information should be on the testing ticket. If you have not received your testing ticket, I recommend following the directions on the attached website.
On your testing ticket, they ask for where you want your test scores to be sent to. Here is a list of schools and codes that you can send your scores to.
https://www.njcoopexam.org/docs/67-2023-COMBINED-PARTICIPATING.pdf
As a reminder, if you are applying to a NY school, you will have to send the scores to the school after you receive them. They will not send the scores to NY, and we do not have access to them to be able to send them.
Best of luck!

Happy Friday,
We will go over this more in depth on Monday, but as always, we like to share information as soon as we get it.
Hudson County School of Technology is High Tech High School and County Prep High School. They are sister schools and work closely together. This year, students can apply to only ONE major. You apply to the major, not the school. There is a list near the bottom of the admission page that states the location of each major.
The admission site is an excellent portal for both schools. Scroll through everything and make sure to click on the 6 yellow boxes host a lot of information about majors, schools, course sequencing, timelines etc. They mentioned a few times during the meeting that they will be updating the website with more information by the end of the day today.
HTHS open house is this Sunday. October 1st. You must RSVP to attend.
The slide decks really go over everything in great detail. The FAQ's are really informative. Please take some time to go through the HTHS slide deck and CPHS slide deck (this slide deck will be available by the end of the day on the HTHS website under this link)
Important Dates:
October 1st @ 6pm: Applications open (step by step information of the application is on the website)
November 5th @ 11:59pm: Applications close
Again, we will be going over all of the on Monday. Link for Monday's meeting at 6:30PM

Hot of the press: PSAT 8/9 Information
PSAT 8/9 test is SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28th, 2023 at MS 7.
This will be the only testing opportunity offered to charter and private schools by the Jersey City Public Schools. If you have a conflict with this date (and no possibility of resolving said conflict), please email us at lccshs@lccsnj.org for other independent testing possibilities.
Step 1 (REQUIRED FOR ALL): Click here for the PSAT RSVP (yes or no).
Whether you are taking the PSAT or not. We need this form filled out with a yes or no from EVERY 8th grader.
If you are interested in applying to McNair and/or Infinity, then you must take the PSAT 8/9. Unfortunately, they do not offer make ups.
Reminder: you must reside in Jersey City in order to apply for McNair and/or Infinity HS.
If you answered YES on the form, please continue with the steps below:
Step 2: Send in cash/check (made out to LCCS) for $26 to Ms. Wright. You can drop it off at the front desk or directly to her in room # 106. This is due by 8AM on Friday, October 6th (Note: Fees are covered by LCCS for free/reduced families). Late forms and money will not be accepted.
Step 3: Once we receive your response from the PSAT RSVP form and your money, we will send out a confirmation email. This confirms that you have completed the first step in applying to McNair and/or Infinity.
Step 4: Testing tickets and IDs (required for testing day) will be handed out on Thursday, October 24th. The PSAT 8/9 test is digital this year. You will not need to bring your own device. The only thing that you will bring on the test day is your testing ticket and ID that we will hand out.
Step 5: Create a College Board account. This is the ONLY way to see your student's test results once they are released (usually around early December). Unfortunately, LCCS does not get a copy of the score reports. We suggest that you complete this form with your username and password. This way we can give you your password/username if you forget it. Otherwise, make sure to write it down somewhere for reference.
Additional information can be found here: All About the PSAT 8/9
Once the scores are in (about 6-8 weeks), we will let you know the MS7 school code needed to assess the scores.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, October 2nd at 6:30 pm on Zoom (link will be emailed out on Thursday, 9/26) for more information about the HS application process.
Best,
Ms. Goral and Ms. Wright

A few other reminders below:
1) Important: Save the Date: Monday, October 2nd @ 6:30 for information on the application process for nearby schools. This guess is based on previous year's and when they administered it. Once we know the date, we will let everyone know the process to sign up. The payment is usually $20 (LCCS covers the cost for students on the free and reduced list) and a short form to complete. The PSAT 8/9 test is only required for students wanting to apply to McNair or Infinity high school.
6) HSPT Sign Up: If you are planning on applying to a Catholic school, you will need to sign up for the HSPT. Use this link to sign up for the HSPT by 10/28/23. The HSPT takes place on 11/10/23. (Note: Unfortunately, we do not have access to who has signed up. This is something that families have to do completely on their own).
7) TECHS Sign Up: If you are planning on applying to a Catholic school in New York, you may need to sign up for the TACHS exam. Most of the NY schools take the HSPT exam, but for scholarship purposes, they may need TACHS. Contact the respective school of interest to decide if this test is needed. Use this link to sign up for TACHS by 10/26/23.

Hello all,
As we head into a holiday weekend, we are happy to announce that all of the HCST, private school requests that we received, and Catholic School Transcripts are completed and sent out!
Wright

Have a great rest of your day! Stay warm (it is -35 degrees out here in WI... brrr),
