Semester exams are given for Middle School at the end of each semester in Mathematics, Science, History, English, and Bible. There are no exemptions from MS semester exams. High School credit classes taken during a student's 8th Grade Year will follow high school policies regarding grading and exams.
Semester grades are recorded on student transcripts and determine course credit and grade point average (GPA). Transcript grades are calculated in the following manner:
Semester course work – 80% (40% per quarter)
When a student is exempt from a final exam, the semester coursework grade will count 100% of the semester grade on the student’s transcript.
Semester exam grade – 20%
For students who are eligible for exemption but elect to take the exam, the exam grade will only be recorded if it raises the final grade.
Approval for any deviation from the posted exam schedule requires administrative approval two weeks prior to the beginning of the exam period. When extenuating circumstances require an alternate time, a $25 fee per test may be assessed. This fee covers the cost to supervise the additional testing period for the exam.
In order for a student to be considered for exam exemptions in the spring semester, students are allowed to miss no more than 9 periods of the instructional time for each class qualifying for exemption and have an average of 90 or above for each of the third and fourth quarters. Dual credit and AP courses do not qualify for exemptions.
