The Learning Lab is a program designed to meet the needs of students who require educational accommodations. To be considered for accommodations, parents must submit a copy of the student’s diagnostic testing to the Learning Lab Coordinator. Testing must be current (typically updated within 3 years), with a clearly stated and supported diagnosis from an evaluator whose professional credentials are well-established. Testing should include students’ educational, developmental, and medical history and should describe the functional limitation of the student’s diagnosis, along with justification for any accommodations recommended. The Learning Lab Coordinator will verify that the documentation meets the guidelines enumerated and that the Learning Lab can effectively serve the student.
Upon the student’s enrollment in the Learning Lab, the coordinator will prepare an Educational Care Plan (ECP) outlining accommodations that LCCS will implement. Although LCCS may not be able to follow every recommendation from the student’s diagnostician/psychologist, the Learning Lab will make every reasonable effort to provide the best possible learning support for each student.
Each student’s Educational Care Plan will be reviewed by the Learning Lab team, affected faculty/staff, and the student’s parents. The Learning Lab coordinator will also reference the student’s diagnostic testing and ECP to request accommodations on standardized tests administered by LCCS as well as those undertaken by the student in pursuit of college admission (e.g., SAT, ACT). Note that receiving accommodations at LCCS adds credibility to accommodation requests but does not ensure accommodations with outside agencies (e.g., College Board, ACT, universities).
Students enroll in the Learning Lab annually for one of the following options:
Testing accommodations only (e.g., extended time on tests/quizzes and an alternate testing site)
Full services (testing accommodations, a reader/scribe as needed, academic coaching, and study hall).
Enrollment in the Learning Lab requires an additional fee beyond tuition, with billing facilitated through FACTS.
