READING VOCABULARY
Ascend - To go up or climb higher.
We watched the hot-air balloon ascend into the sky.
Courtesy - Being polite, kind, and respectful to others.
Holding the door open for someone is a courtesy.
Enclose -To surround or close something in.
Please enclose the letter in the envelope.
Frenzy - A time when people are very excited, wild, or out of control.
The fans went into a frenzy when their team won.
Intention - What you plan or mean to do.
My intention is to help my friend.
Malice - A desire to hurt or harm someone.
He did not hurt her out of malice.
Decree - An official order or command.
The king made a decree that everyone must follow.
Fulfill - To do something that you promised or were expected to do.
She worked hard to fulfill her dream.
Generation - A group of people who are about the same age or were born around the same time.
Parents and children can belong to different generations.
Interpret - To explain what something means.
We had to interpret the poem to understand its meaning.
Overwhelm - To make someone feel like there is too much to handle.
Having ten assignments at once can overwhelm a student.
Righteous - Doing what is right, good, and fair.
The Bible teaches us to live righteous lives.
