Welcome to Lakewood High School

Home Learning

All Long Beach Unified School District Schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year.

On Monday, March 23, LBUSD started sending home learning opportunity information to all general education and special education students. These opportunities were for the period between Monday, March 23 through Wednesday, April 22. Work assigned during this period will not be graded but will support learning which can only improve grades in the weeks ahead.

On Thursday, April 23rd Lakewood staff will begin grading work provided online. Students should expect about one hour of work from each teacher and some teachers may even offer enrichment and extra credit opportunities. The lessons will support students’ continued learning of essential content in their grade level and coursework. Work done during this period of time will help teachers to determine whether or not students will be awarded credit or NO credit for the courses they are enrolled in for this semester. Although letter grades will not be issued, students must complete the class in order to get credit for the class. All students will receive either C/NC for each class they are enrolled in this semester.

Teachers will be using School Loop and Google Classroom along with other online tools to help support students and families with lessons.

If you need a Chromebook, devices are still available for checkout. Go the Lakewood Website to sign-up for a pick-up time. Please be sure to only come on campus by appointment, all offices are closed and Chromebook distribution is at the front gate only during designated times. If you already have a device at home, you do not need to pick-up a Chromebook. All materials are accessible with any Internet connected device. Chromebooks will need to be returned after June 12th.

We can also provide information about gaining access to the internet at home, for families that still need access. If your family needs help with internet access, please text our remote number ‪(562) 317-4775‬ and we will get back to you. There are several low cost and even a few free options for families.

Seniors, it is especially important at this time that you access and complete assignments to help ensure your graduation. You will want to work closely with your teachers to be sure you complete the course and get credit for the class. Colleges and universities have agreed to accept credit/no credit grades for acceptance. For more information on how your grades will affect your college acceptances check out the CA Department of Education Website.

Lakewood High School wants all students and parents to know that you are always at the center of our work and that we are here to support you. We are working in the office and remotely to continue supporting you though the last weeks of the semester. All staff can be reached through School Loop or regular email to answer your questions and provide help and support. Our office is answering calls M-F from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at 562-425-1281 and remotely ‪at (562) 317-4775‬. You can even text us at the remote number after hours and we will get back to you.

Please watch for updated information on the Lakewood website and LBUSD’s website at lbschools.net. We miss you and thank you for your patience as we all navigate this new way of learning together!
